Storage Solutions Wait for 7200.12 1.5 TB or get 7200.11?

I'm thinking of a new hard drive to replace 2x 250 GB's that I use.
I was initially thinking 7200.11 1 TB; but with the new 1.5 TB I'm getting greedy. How are these drives? I've seen posts on TE claim these are failing quite a lot, is that just a bad batch?

Also the new 7200.12 seems interesting, but its not available in 1.5 TB. Should I wait? Get a 1 TB 7200.12? Or get the 7200.11 1.5 TB? At an average how many of these newer hard drives are going bad?

Best Option: 7200.11 1.5GB is currently the best VFM @ Rs. 5.0666/GB

2nd Best: WD Green 1TB is also a superb drive as its 5400-7200rpm comes handy in saving electricity and noise the 1.5TB drives are notoriuos for. @ Rs. 5.4/GB

Incase the expected price for 7200.12 1.5GB is very less (Less than 7k), Only then u shud be w8ing for it....

7200.11 500GB has got better random seek times and burst speeds which i thot come More handy in case of Games/OS, as no game/OS use much of sequential transfer (which is better in 7200.12)..Plz correct me if im wrong.

^^

7200.11 is better than .12 for games /os??
how is 500aaks compared to 7200.11 and .12??

evn im nt cnfirmed,,,,

thts y asking knowledge of the almighty pro's....

my resning behind the statement: games need minimum seek times and maximum burst rates (which are found well in the WD Raptors)
- 7200.11 has burst speed of ~257MB/s and random seek time of ~12ms :)
- 7200.12 has burst speed of ~231MB/s and random seek time of ~15ms :(

Whereas incaSE OF Sequential read speed (which i think only comes in handy in windows Startup and data transfers): 7200.12 > 7200.11

should i buy a seagate baraccuda 1.5tb(9000/-)+casing(2000/-) OR a 500gb MAXTOR usb portabale drive(6,500/-).
I'm confused cos by paying just 4000/-+ i get 1.5 with casing which i can also use as external drive from time to time.I never had an hands on experienc with these drives with casings n all thats y i'm asking.

Get 7200.12 500GB for OS/Games partition and WD Green 1TB is good VFM @ 5.4k, 80mbps~ enough for storage drive. 7200.11 firmware issue is fixed.

with which firmware fixed this? i even got my drive RMAed the Last time and it had major boot up issues..

wait for WD15EADS 1.5TB & 7200.12 1.5TB as they are only 3 platter drives

WD has 5yrs warranty

Seagate has 3yrs warranty
