Laptops Warning: Don't buy the Alu Macbook if you intend to use it for Windows primarily

Juggernaut
So I thought I'll play around with POP and GTA IV and decided to setup boot camp XP on my otherwise beloved Macbook
To my dismay though, the trackpad (which under OS X is by far the best trackpad I have ever used) is complete unadulterated disaster in XP

Right clicks just don't work..tracking is erratic to say the least and overall, it is nearly unusable

In addition, the battery which happily goes over 4-4.5 hrs in OS X dips down to 2.5 hrs or so under windows

I am not sure who to blame but suspect Apple is the culprit here for not releasing proper drivers for the mouse

As for the battery life, again, am guessing it is a combination of poor battery management in windows coupled with poorly optimized chipset drivers (Windows) from Apple

Now even though I'd anyway use a mouse and plug the system into AC for the occasional gaming session so this whole fiasco is not a big deal for me

But anyone who intends to get a Macbook for primarily running windows, the new MB is a clear no-go (at least till better drivers arrive)

Why XP and not Vista? That might alleviate the issue, don't you think?

@ Superczar - I had the issue as well, but you need to set it up correctly.

Btw, right-click is a three finger click ;)

What kind of framerates are you getting on GTA4 though?

There may be some work arounds or driver tweaks which may fix up this issue to an extent, but extremely disappointing nevertheless

The main reason I love Apple stuff is because (to use a cliche) it just works so if I have to indulge in hunting alternate drivers/registry tweaks, the whole purpose is kind of defeated

Using a 3 finger click for right click is also so non-intuitive..

PS: Macbook running OS X certainly works flawlessly and for the record is definitely the best laptop I have ever had

well i installed OSX on my wind and used it for 2-3 days before returning back to XP, i was getting 4-4:30 hours of backup on xp which was considerably reduced on OSX ...... and i didn't like the interface, the freaking OS won't let you do anything lol..... anyways i guess its just matter of getting used to, but i am back to XP for good hehe .....

Comparing OS X on Wind with OS X on Macbooks or iMacs is gibberish.

OS X isn't made for Wind, so why do you even expect the battery life to be like a real Mac.:P

And you didn't like the interface..huh ..what do you like then, XP's interface?

On the topic, well i am sure Apple will sort out these minor glitches soon.:)

And i think running windows primarily on a Macbook is the most stupid thing one can be doing.:P

Rahul, OS X on Wind isn't a good idea simply coz OS X is optimized for sse3 instructions which the poor atom proccy does not support..

Also, what is it that OS X did not let you do..

And i think running windows primarily on a Macbook is the most stupid thing one can be doing.

There are quite a few people who like the Macbook hardware but for some reason or the other don't want to switch from windows

Not I, maybe not you, but doesn't mean there aren't people who wouldn't do that

i just posted that, because SZ posted that hes not getting same backup on windows on a mac, same for windows which is optimised for every damn lappy available in market other that apple. yeah i didn't like OSX, as i said maybe because people take time getting used to, no need to get hyper, please read what i said before LOLing ......

well even without the sse3 support which i think you are taking too seriously it works flawlessly. there wasn't any performance issue.

that what i said yaar , i am not familier with OSX and i always doing the things wrong way. its like mobile OSes i find nokia easy to use and everytime i try to use SE phone ends up pressing the wrong button for any thing i want to do lol, that doesn't make nokia better than SE or otherwise...... no way i was declaring that windows XP or OSX is better than other ...... what i said that, right now i am more comfortable with XP

To add to the list, check this article on the inquirer. I guess macbook pros certainly face more problems than the regular macbooks due to the discreet graphics chipsets. Although the inquirer isn't exactly neutral, the above article does make some sense.

Wheeee so when my Macbook fails I gets a new one from Apple! xD

updated the driver...

it improves things quite a bit but the damn thing is still a bit fidgety

(Taps seem to be way sensitive, and the driver doesnt allow me to reduce it)

O'reilly?

Guess my ASUS 1000H came with an Atom from a parallel universe, then.
