Websites not loading on my laptop

Recently I've started facing an issue with various sites on my laptop where the page will load and then suddenly will move to another page asking me to install a plugin as in picture below

picture hosting

I downloaded the plugin and scanned it online on virustotal and it gave me the following result

free image hosting

The issue is in random websites, mostly where I land up from google search. It's affecting chrome as well as IE. The only way to access the site is by disabling the javascript in setting but it renders many websites unusable.

I have not installed any new program or plugin.

Please help me get rid of this.

Seems like your laptop is already infected, try searching for info on how to clean it up. Preferably take a backup of your important files/docs (throw away stuff like installers etc which you can re-download after cleanup) and clean re-install Windows. Maybe before re-install try cleaning it from external bootable USB antivirus solution (again, search online for such). But once you are infected, best bet is to clean re-install. After you cleanup, then immediately scan your existing backed-up files/docs/songs/videos etc to check those as well.

If you are using pirated Windows, you may be shooting yourself in the foot and the problem will come back anyways.[DOUBLEPOST=1487573801][/DOUBLEPOST]What OS and any anti-virus are you using? Basic Windows Defender or MS Security Essentials at least?[DOUBLEPOST=1487573886][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, always try to keep your OS and programs like browsers etc updated frequently, assuming you have the internet speed/bandwidth to do so regularly.

Windows defender only with safe browsing/computer operating habits like no keygen/patching thing. It has been a trouble free sailing since last 4 years that I ditched my kaspersky a/v.
I'll be disappointed to know that it has been compromised. Anyway, getting a bootable USB scanner and will try to clean up and reinstall if needed. Any suggestions ?

You are on Win10? Sorry, I am not up-to-date to give suggestions, probably search online for updated articles/hints or maybe someone else here might chime in.

BTW, by any chance do you (recently maybe) share USB pen drives with other people for file sharing/exchanging stuff? In windows I always disable the USB autorun feature because that is one easy place to get infected by inserting USB pen drives.[DOUBLEPOST=1487575026][/DOUBLEPOST]Bootable USB scanner is IMO the second best option if you are going to try that. Best option is to re-install from a clean ISO image :D I know painful but better way to get clean.

Yes on windows 10 & USB malice is something I'm very careful with. Some issues with data segregation right now hence trying the scanning thing and would like it to work else will go for a clean re-install. My preferred option as well.
Btw, any recommendation for help with such browser manipulating objects ?

Only thing I can think of is to keep the browsers and OS updated frequently - meaning allow the auto update features (at least let it auto check and notify you of updates) enabled so that any known flaws are fixed regularly.

Also, gotta be careful what sites you visit and what extensions/software you install etc. because lots of malware spreads through so-called free stuff so I just avoid any new/unknown stuff only install well-known software from well-known (official) download locations.

Scan your PC with malware bytes first. Many cases this program removes 90% or more of malware infections on the comp.

Windows defender is crap. It just hogs computer resources now. I've disabled it through group policy and it still runs in background. Shitty software. You're better off with 3rd party antivirus software like ESet or avast or kaspersky.

I agree with what 6pack said scan with zemana and hitmanpro first as their scan completes quickly than the normal full scan, then go with malwarebytes/eset full scan. Also, use ublockorigin adblocker if not already using.

Okay so what happened today that my brother who was visiting me got the same issue on his laptop. Alarmed, cleared all browser data but this time also cleaned up temp folder and restarted and the problem was gone ! Did the same on my laptop and its solved :confused:

Please also check your modem DNS address...these days rogue DNS aka DNS hijacking is very famous..best will be to use google public DNS. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as static DNS in your router config

Was just searching some of my old thread and came across this post. Posting the issue's root cause in case someone faces it again and stumbles on this thread : It was BSNL injecting the pages when using their ADSL services.

The moment I stopped using BSNL, the issue was gone. It was even talked in few forums sometimes later as flagged as unfair practice to higher ups at BSNL but no body gave two hoots. Hope it changed now

Thanks for the information. I feel it's always better to post in the comments or main post what the solution to the problem was so that it helps everyone in future.
