I was looking around for a ext drive with USB 3.0 and couldnt find with any indian reseller. Hence i shot a request to ICC world for this drive. They came up with this rate

Item price, local shipping, taxes: Rs. 6461
International Shipping: Rs. 644
Duty, Taxes, & Fees: Rs. 700

TOTAL Rs. 7805

What do you guys think ?

For a USB 3.0 drive, I think it is a reasonable quote. Another simple option is to go for the Seagate GoFlex 2TB drive for 6.2 and then cough up another 2k for the USB 2.0 goFlex adaptor. Both are available in stores and in ebay. You end up paying Rs 500 more, but then you get full local warranty.

I would strongly recommend AGAINST GO FLEX drives. Here's why:

Their power management is abysmal.

1) When you Safely Remove the drive, the drive doesn't power down till the inactivity timer has expired. It could usually range from 10 minutes to 30 minutes depending on how you have configured it.

2) Wether you have Safely Removed the Drive or have let the drive spin down after the inactivity timer has expired, the drive will turn back on again if you shut down the system.

3) The only way to turn off this drive is to yank out the power cable. No Power Switch

Let me contrast this for you with the WD MyBook Essential

1) Safely Remove will power off the drive completely including all the indicators.
2) Turning off the system, powers down the drive as well.
3) Turning on the system automatically powers up the drive.
4) The Inactivity timer is always spot on. While you are using your system, if the inactivity timer expires, the drive powers down, but the indicators remain lit. However there is an indicator on the drive that lets you know that the drive is powered down.
5) If you have turned off the drive (via Safely Remove), you can always turn it back on by just pressing the soft switch at the back of the drive. No yanking out of any cables.

A freind of mine got a Seagate 1 TB G flex drive. I found it slow..... Wasnt too happy with it.

Thanks for the input guys. Am still checking out options for Sata 3 ( 6gb/s) drives.
