Insanely Awesome!!
Galvanizer
So the OEM battery on my 4yr old ikon, which had been acting up for the past week or so, conked off this morning. I opened it up and checked the cells for water levels and they were fine, however one of the cell had bubbles coming out of it, when I inquired at a local battery shop(over the phone), he said the battery will have to be replaced.

I havn't checked the voltages with a multimeter but what should the reading be if the battery is acceptable condition ??

How do I know if it's not a problem with the alternator ??

What are the pro's and cons of getting a higher power battery ??

If I have to change the battery, What brand do you guys recommend ??

I have read a lot of positives about Amaron, so was inclined to get it, but I tried thier Customer support nos (18004254848, 09840954848) to find a dealer, but couldn't get through on any of them. Which is why I'm a bit paranoid about their A.S.S.

I need to get this sorted ASAP so quick replies would be appreciated :)

THe one that last long lilly long. With as awesome an ad camapaign its a pity they are lacking in the A.S.S dept.

exide works for most folks, but some folks who have had bad experiences with their OE exide batteries stick to amaron. Its kinda like the generic vs branded PSU thing. buy if you can afford it , and you think it will make a difference to you

Thanx a lot for the response guy's, as I was in a hurry in the morning I ended up buying the Amaron Flo 44DIN for 4.5k (after exchange) with 24month warranty (+24 pro-rata).

Before that had the alternator checked and it was OK, also checked the old battery with a multimeter, while cranking it was dropping down to 8.2V whereas the new one doesn't go below 11.8 (tried multiple times). Hope the battery doesn't give me any problems.

BTW the toll free number for am-care, advertised in so many places on the official website still doesnt work for me :( .

^^ I've heard Amaron Batteries are pretty gud :hap2:

Exide's customer service is excellent... but I got no idea about Amaron's service...

Last time when the battery was due for change, called up Amaron and call got through in single try. Noted down the Dealers name and drove to the dealer in Sector-16 Auto Market.
Chekced the battery, finalised the deal and the mechanic comes in to replace the battery. Now the real story begins.

Comes in a Three wheeler, with a dead battery under warranty(the vehicle was approx 3 months old), the mechanic flatly refuses to honour warranty, asks for 500 bucks as his kharcha-paani while I shockingly watch the whole bargaining.

Meanwhile, same mechanic checks the alternator output and also starter load and hints about about a weak starter, I ask him to remove the new battery and put the old one while I get the starter checked. Drove off and never went back..!

PS: I might be wrong about the whole barganing thing, but then what about the mechanic's claim initially that the battery is 'Dead', while this story happened 9 months ago and the previous battery is still working perfectly fine, even after two very tough and long trip.

Exide is good. batteries are pretty good and A.S.S is great as well.

i have heard amaron doesnt have as good A.S.S.

I went the amaron way after reading a lot of negative reviews about Exide (mostly at Team-Bhp). Since I got it from the official company store (Pitstop) which is not too far away from my place I was assured of on the spot replacement in case anything goes wrong, which is unlikely.

Exide after sales rocks, I have read many horror stories about exide batteries especially OEM ones but I have been lucky with Exide.

+1. given the large number of batteries exide sells , there are bound to be a few bad apples somewhere. I too am a (so far) happy exide owner :)

Amaron works for me... My Zen VX's Amaron Hi-Life will complete 7 years this October.... bought it on 10 Oct 2002... :hap2: :hap2:

Yepp Seven years.... Though only sign of wear is that cranking power is little lower than, when it was new... But can't complain 'coz of all the time it served me... Its all bonus years now...

Always get Amaron from their company showroom aka "Pitstop"... & save the warranty card instead of bill which is much more important... I bought it from a dealer though 'coz at that time there were no company showrooms.. Thankfully no initial trouble with the battery after purchase...

That's why bought one for my Activa which I use sparingly... The cranking power is superb... Earlier I was using wet type batteries.... Used Exide, SF, & Amco... 'coz of less use the batteries use to discharge frequently or took longer time for the self to start the engine...

But now with Amaron its always ready to start....
