Laptops What first device for a 13 year old ??

The schools are going to move to full fledged online classes. And my Jrs are going to have a clash on my main workstation. Phone is not a good option. And casting on TV is useless.
It seems I need another device for my 13 year old. Need your advice.

Usage -
  • Online classes ( Google , Zoom, Webex ),
  • Web Browsing
  • Python
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • NO discrete gaming support
  • ... Durability should be a must

What should be a first device ?
  • Or is it too early to get a personal device ?
  • Do I get a decent medium range laptop ? ( What minimum config + budget should I be looking at )
  • Or I build a mini-itx rig
  • Or I buy a raspberry pi4 4gb ( Have a spare monitor )
  • Or do I buy a NUC
* I'm open for pre-owned devices depending upon config and condition.



Edit : What hardware I have spare
- Monitor - 22"
- HDD - 2x 1TB
- PSU - 2x 450W
- RAM - 24GB , 2400Mhz , DDR4 ( 8GB + 16GB Stick)

Have you looked at 2-in-1 laptops from HP,
they can work as laptop ,a tablet and as a graphics designer tablet with pen support for creativity.

for durability, more or less all laptops , tablets are similar in durability except some specialized laptops that are built extra rugged.
