What type of a monitor display is this?

I recently bought a LG 24MP88HV monitor (Amazon link). I noticed that the display felt plastic (I was expecting glass). My first thought was may be it has a screen protector similar to phones. I looked at its edges and saw a plastic layer. I tried pulling it out thinking it was the screen protector. To my horror, it was the actual display. This is how it looks after pulling it out.

So, I was wondering if it is common for monitors to use plastic like this or did LG forgot to add glass layer on my monitor? Also, what should I look for if I need a monitor with glass?

I maybe wrong but I think you pulled out the polarizing layer. It's usually stuck very well to the screen. Maybe ask LG if they will replace it? It should not come out like that imo.

post that first pic in /r/techsupportgore if you're on reddit or can I?

second image - try using a credit card on top of microfiber cloth to remove all those bubbles out. Do it gently. Put the monitor on bed so panel is on a flat surface. Start from inside and push the air out towards the edges.

see this video - a bit weird how the guy is removing it with a blade.

As said above, its the polarizing film. It should not come out that easily. I don't think these new displays come with glass unless it has a touchscreen. I may be wrong though.

I took the monitor to LG service center. They said that it won't be covered under warranty since I removed it, and that it would cost 7000 to replace the display.

Sure. Please feel free to post it there.

try local shops to see if they can stick that part back or just use clear cello tape to stick it. There is some optically clear glue for mobile phones screens but it costs around 350+ for a few ml. It's for sticking the led screen to glass permanently using uv light. So probably that wont work.

LG seems to screw-up now a days really bad. Atleast they said they had panel. I was told that panel is not in stock any more.

I have the 24" MP77HM-P.

I would suggest trying local shop only with good reputation in area.

LG is not the brand I think it was before.
