I think the tab's have quite a bit of a niche that you cannot combine them with smart"phones". Calling them giant smartphones sounds a bit rusty.

Yes, thats what I am saying. They are just a niche in a larger group of mobile devices.
Maybe you did not like my comment because some tablets don't allow you to make a cellular voice call otherwise my statement would have been entirely correct and you would not have been bewildered.

Lol, bang on, that was quite what I was thinking about too
But, Would you call a laptop a small desktop? A pair of headphones small speakers? or maybe visa versa?
Likewise, I think we have come as far along as to not call them just big phones. I'm sure a few folks will nod along to this.
And my objection was only to the "they are just giant smartphones" comment.

Doesn't the same logic apply to laptops vs computers? Computers are just larger laptops.
Plus mobile phones include the non smartphones too which have nothing to do with tablets.

As for your desktop vs laptop analogy, It doesn't hold because there are a tonne of things that are different between laptops and desktops (at least in terms of hardware) that warrant a separate section for discussion. When tablets set themselves apart from smart phones in a similar manner then it makes sense to have a dedicated section to discuss them separately.
