Whey Protein Advice

Hello guys,

have started working out at home for weight loss. have the weights and all the stuff. After going through a number of articles, i have learned that taking protein supplements is also essential. Kindly advice on which brand of whey protein should i go for.

taking protein supplements is not "essential". The whey in particular is used for building muscles and should be avoided if you are going for a weight loss.

More Muscles = More weight(fat) loss

Are you talking about More Muscles = Higher BMR and hence more weight loss? It all depends on where you are right now. What is your height, weight and BMI?

Also Fat Loss != Weight Loss. A few other factors are involved.

do not even think about taking whey protein to help weight loss , u will end up putting on more.

But if u do want to take it atleast join a gym and do some heavy weight training, also please consult a nutritionist before taking any supplements

yea right . was referring to More Muscles = Higher BMR

Protein supplements are recommended only after a minimum of 4 months of rigorous Gym workouts. There are many types of Protein supplements, some used for gaining mass, some for gaining lean muscles, but in the end if you don't work out enough the supplements will only deteriorate your overall health. I wouldn't recommend using supplements for home workouts. Whatever you do, consult your doctor first.

if u do wish to take protein supplements it is very much necessary in how u go abt it.......for eg. i have a very lean built and putting on weight is a very difficult task for me...but since i started working out i have been putting on weight and bulk at a very slow rate...my body became leaner yet i would gain weight caused by the increase in muscle density because of a proper diet schedule......which would never happen before......also there is nothing wrong in taking supplements provided u take the proper one with the right ingredients and the right contents and no artificial additives or steriods etc...for eg. u would want a suppliment that would give u more of actual proteins and less of carbs. Carbs can be accuried with daily routine food as well...but the actual content required by the body for 'mass' building is the right amount of combination of carbs with the protein...so the ratio is very important here.....if you want to continue with home exercises NO isses with it....but for the intake of protein the least u can do is get in touch with some nutrition specialist at a good gym and join the diet plan which will get u thru in a perfect way.....but pls dont just walk into any shop and pickup any protein.....hence i would not advise a particular brand / make right here cause the one that suits me wouldnt suit you....or for that matter any thing suitable to anybody else here might not go well with your work / diet schedule

Ok this has been discussed n times here..

But as this topic is getting discussed again..

I would really like to know what should/not my diet consist?

I have been hostelite for 7yrs but now my family shifted here and i am eating 24x7 and well i am avoiding butter, ghee, oil foods.. I am still putting weight exponentially :(

Well i don't intend to add things like Protein Shakes, or supplements or things on those lines...

What i am looking for is things that i should avoid (the thing we eat on daily basis like roti, chapati, sabzi's , rice, dal, curd, buttermilk, papads etc)

I know there is no substitute for exercise, but i wanna atleast try cutting things that are adding to my weight... I checked few websites but they all recommend following wierd diets as in to eat xyz things and that too quiet weird things that we don't incorporate in our diets at home...

Any suggestions..

was that question intended for me ? i followed a proper multiple meal schedule and trust me it works....:hap2: multiple meals would mean , a proper heavy breakfast - diet including milk eggs / meal 1 / meal 2 / snacks / meal 3 / meal 4 ...all small meals with the right amount of stuff.....again you would gain out of the blue but then u would....i never gained any weight before...

all u need to do is heavy cardio + a proper weight loss diet schedule from the neutritionist.......mind u i have seen people eating more! even for a weight loss schedule....but it matters what goes in....not eating and straving yourself will drain you down / de-energize and give u a SELF Content feeling of satisfaction that u would be loosing weight because u aint eating 'x' things......

Here is a blog of my friend. He is a Professional Bodybuilder. Go through his blog, he has posted some rather interesting articles regarding weight loss and gaining muscles. You can also make any query to him, I am sure he will reply back. :)

many people associate BMI with health and they even specify ranges under which ur called healthy or fatty....actually this is not quite true...the concept of BMI holds very little importance when they referenced wrt people doin weight training...bcoz their body composition is defferent , they have more bodymass from muscle then fat , muscle being matabolically active tissue is good to body then passive fat cells........so when u working out with weights just foget BMI for a while instead use MIRROR to judge ur progress.......u may however moniter ur weight though....how ever it is not that nessesory...

working out is working out whether done at home or at gym....however home training becomes obslate after a level...since ur working out for fat loss wt-training is a must...supplement ur wt-training with some HIIT [high intensity interval training]...do it on off days.....outside....

supp's are the purest form of food..but they are not food they are supplemnts..and made to supplemnt missing ingradients in ur diet for convanience or digation efficiency...whey protien in perticuler used for its quick digesting property....and recommended post workout...they are nnot medicine[steroids-drugs...]...so they are very safe........but since they are purest so they will digest quickest ..a common whey protien is digested with in 30 mins after intake.......which may lead to dengerous fluctuation in levels of protien in blood if consumed in abusive quantity at once...body then instead of doing protien synthesis..does oppsite...hence monitered intake of whey protien supp's are recommended.......pay attn to the amt protien contained by per scoop....the protien powder i use has 24 gms per 29.4 gms[1 scoop] .... enquire some local gym\supp-shop and calculate protien % urself then buy the most VFM product....OPTIMUM NUTRITION'S 100% whey proien was quite popular and cheap some times ago but now its priced are very much hiked now a days......just search...u will find many brands......choose wisely.....

@EscSysRq : well said !....

the body requirement for protein is "1gm" per kg of your weight....if you do weight training properly everyday the body requirement gets double up....

go for whey isolate with no additives like creatine in it.. isopure would be a good option.. they have an isopure low cal meal replacement shake. it comes in sachets too. the comapany name is nature's best or something. but make sure you get plenty of water in your system daily.

very imp point said....althouigh with proper protein whey taken it it would not be compulsory , but then its highly advisable as it would not allow any deposits of the same...also , protein is highly dissolable in water and hence excess of the same gets washed out of the system......intake of any suppliments that include 'creatine' would want heavy intake of liquids...and the word wouldnt be heavy but constant intake of water is required.....being not easily dissolved it might lead to 'stone' problems...eeks..ouch!

p.s : pls ignore all spelling mistakes....kbb seems to be acting up...

Weight loss is a simple function of calories in vs. calories out. From a weight loss standpoint, eating 500 calories worth of "healthy food" is the same as eating 500 calories worth of chips (this is obviously not the same in terms of a HEALTH standpoint). Avoiding certains foods is not going to help you in any way if you are not counting calories. Generating a caloric deficit is what makes people lose weight. Some people do it by exercising a lot, some people diet. What you should do is start cutting portions from your meals (eg. eat one less roti than you are used to eating). This is NOT easy, but then if it were, the world wouldn't be filled with fat people would it? :bleh:
Eat more protein than fats or carbs, as this will inhibit muscle loss caused by dieting to a certain extent. Take a multivitamin to fulfill your nutritional needs. Lift weights if you have access to a gym.

OP: There is no harm in consuming whey protein even if you are overweight. Just make sure it is an isolate and don't go for any of those mass-gainer shakes.. Buy Optimum Nutrition's 100% Gold Standard Whey if you want a decent supplement.

OK OP Stay away from whey protein for 6 months or so... u wont be able to really "Utilize" it properly! Hey BTW if u want drastic weight loss make boiled food your staple diet! Eat small multipla meals in a day... like more than 5 melas all boiled food and make sure you buy new clothes as u will felol difference in 15 days and ppl will start seeing diff in 10 days flat! All u have to do is stick with boiled food, it will be difficult u can add some MDH Masalas for flavour etc so that eating boiled food becomes rather easy!
Good luck.
Believe it or not my younger brother lost 12 kgs in flat 40 days doing this and working out 5 days in a gym (Jogging etc)
I will try and find pictures of him in the "before" and "after" stage!
