Adept
I am planing to upgrade my 17"CRT to a new 19"LCD. This is my first LCD and need help.
I am really confused at looking the sites and models.
It will be used for movies,Games and general computing.
I have also read some where about the viewing angle of the LCD.Please suggest me the one with maximum viewing angle.
It will be paired with 6600 (both DVI and VGA.)
Please suggest the model number and the approximate price too
thanks in advance

a copy paste from the december's TE buying Guide :

Monitor: ViewSonic 19" VG1930WM / Dell SE198WFP / L.G. L194WT 8.5k

Here are three monitors, choose whichever u like :bleh:

I'd recommend the SE198WFP , among the three!

Upgrading from 17" regular CRT to a crappy wide screen 19" is foolishness.

Take my advice wait for few more months for 22" price to come down, grab 22" ;)

hmm... in a dilemma whether to wait or to buy now..

dell Quoted me every 19" LCD more than 12K to be shipped......

Dude, the SE198WFP is available in MOST SHOPS for around 9.3k !!!

Why bother ordering it online?

Because the 17" CRT has regular aspect ratio (there were no wide 17") It sounds funny but upgrading from 17" reg to 19" wide will just feel that your OLD CRT shrinked heightwise and became super slim...

Believe me.. i exchanged my almost new Veiwsonic 19" wide with a 4 year old 19" REGULAR LCD. LCD prices are coming down, 22" size is perfect for movies good for gaming. 19" reg LCDs are expensive.. not worthy. Target cheapest 22" avl today or maybe after few months.... BenQ and Dell have best offerings, if u buy 19" today (a size which is gradually becoming obsolete) you wont be able to buy a 22" soon.. i guess... :cool2:

Care to tell why? :ashamed:

ViewSonic-VX1940w = 19" (1680x1050)

22" Viewsonic cost 10k, some where I read on TE search

If can stretch budget (I will ask you to wait if can't stretch) go with Benq HD2200 (full HD) for 12.5k

I don't agree with you I have seen friends upgrade from 17 to 19 the whole point is that 1ce you upgrade to a ws the black bars in most movies are cured.

Also aspect ratio is more a matter of perspective and I guess he should decide for himself.

I'd suggest you to go for LG/Viewsonic.

+ to 22" over 19" when upgrading from 17" regular is considered.

just a glimpse on screen area u will get with various options..

For 17".. 4:3 ratio CRT/LCD you get around 139 Sq.Inch screen area.

For 19" 16:10 you get around 162 Sq.Inch (around 8-10 Sq.Inch lesser for 16:9)

For 22: 16:10 you get aroun 217 Sq.Inch (around 10-11 Sq.Inch less for 16:9)

on the other hand... for 21" 4:3 CRT that can cost u around 3k 2nd hand..

you get around 210 Sq.Inch...:)

so choose wisely.

se198wfp is outdated now, even removed from the dell india website........

get latest 1909w ..........8k at chennai......

my advice keep away from samsung cas they lack dvi ports.....
if u have money get the t series but they'll surely drill a hole in ur wallet.
