PC Peripherals Which DVD burner to buy from US

I am ordering a DVD writer from Us which should i buy out of the following

1.NEC Black IDE DVD Burner Model ND-3540A

2.Benq DW 1640 ( heard it had some problems with indian media)

3.Pioneer Black IDE DVD Burner Model DVR-109 BK - OEM

All our approx. same prices.
 
BenQ 1640... no doubt at all... or the Sony DRU 810A which is Benq 1640 itself but rebadged as Sony..

1640 in India costs somehwere around 3.5K
 
I bought one NEC 3520A Black early this year from Newegg. Happy with it.

But I feel that if you are buying a model available in India, as the price diff is not very high, it is better to buy it here.
 
i am having probs with media with the nec3500. so i would suggest go for the pioneer or benq. i know 2-3 guys have been using pioneer & all are amazing drives not given any probs yet.

What media/firmware are you using stormie? I have had zilch problems on everything that i've burnt.... only lost 1 dvd till date and that too cos my system was way overspec'ed and not stable.

I use Nero VISION Express a lot for making movie DVDs out of my mpg/avi files and Recode is also a good software. The Nero Toolkit is also nice if you dont already have Nero CD-DVD Speed installed.
 
I have All-In-One suite :P has toolkit, blackup, etc etc..i dont burn DVD movies, so havent installed vision...
 
tried all media/firmware chaos. even the default firmware that came with the drive. many media's dont work. but the good branded media's work. sony works almost perfectly dvd+r8x which is recommended by nec on their site.

Hm... Edgetek and Moserbaer -R seem to work for me mighty fine though these days i generally use MB 8X +R oversped to 12X. Me using Liggy and Dee 2.19 firmware. No real issues with any media.

Yesterday I picked up 100 Edgetec's for 21/- each ... how is that ? I am sure you must have paid less !! :)

I also got some MB 8x +R's but I am having problems with these on my older DVD-ROMs. No support for +R's on old readers.
 
I paid less than u ;) Edgetecs are good for dumping useless stuff such as movies :P. They cost around 22-23 per disc in a 50 stack. So u got them for cheaper ;). Of late though... i've been using the moserbaers. For more sensitive data, I use either Sony or Verbatim.
