Which laptop to buy? Totally coonfused....

Hi,

I want to buy a new laptop for my dad. After having searched through various posts and reviews, the confusion of selecting the best for a given price is getting tougher and tougher for me. I hope your replies can lead me to the best laptop available in the market. My use and needs are given below:

  • My Budget? - around 35K max

  • Primary usage for the notebook be? - The laptop will only be used by my dad. Main need for him is to do share trading, web surfing, office apps and watching movies.

  • What size and weight considerations do I have? - Either 14" or 15.6"

  • Any brand that I prefer, or any brand that I detest? - After using DELL Studio XPS 1640 for the past two years without any major issues, I am bit more inclined towards DELL (also due to their good customer service). But, all other brands are also welcome if they can outperform the DELL counterparts.

  • Any other considerations? - Portable (in the sense, it should not be overweight).

  • Buying mode? - Like to buy from authorized dealers rather than from flipkart/ebay/etc... But its not a complete no no. Can consider it if there is a significant change in price.

I too had same question in mind around 2-3 months back.

I almost decided on Dell but after looking the specs and the look of Sony Vaio I purchased it with my budget extended.

It has a better battery backup than HP and dell. You may check model of e-series which would cost between 29K to 31K

Sony also offers a two years extended warranty for 2500 and a RAM upgradation option at a very low cost without effecting the warranty.

Here are two models I suggest

1. http://www.sony.co.in/product/vpceh15en/sku/vpceh15en_b+in5

2. http://www.sony.co.in/product/vpceh25en/sku/vpceh25en_b+in5

Dell laptops are actually very good. The brand is offering great technology at worth price. I think you should get customized a laptop from dell website for your dad. Seeing your's dad requirement I feel a laptop with 4GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, 1GB Radeon graphic card, 5-in-1 media card reader, would gp fine. Rest is on your choice.

Hi Go with

1) DELL Vostro 1450 Bundle Offer - 30,566

if it is 3 year complete cover ..

I agree that i am also tempted by the 3 year full cover, but is 1450 still worth considering than 3450 and probook 4430s?

Get the Dell Vostro 1450 bundle offer as the specs are good enough for your dad's usage conditions and the 3yrs complete cover by Dell makes it an excellent package.

Hi,

Specs are compareable and One extra RAM stick can be added Later.

3 year Complete Cover is the main reason for that it will provide complete peace of mind.

in my experience vostro has best build quality. they are made for business use.dell also provides service and spares availability for 5 yrs on bistro models.

Hi ManU Fan

See your first choice is absolutly fine which is Dell, its laptops are really good and also you can have good services for any other laptop I would recommend for Lenovo they also have the good quality of laptops and they have large service center.

I would say that do not go for compaqe and HP as HP laptops heat up very soon and compaque sound and key pad quality are very bad.

I would very strongly recommend Lenovo Laptops specially G Series (G50 Onwards) since they are cheap, robust, and light with big screen.

Am not sure they are available online
