Wich is best between Compaq Presario CQ40-108TU & Compaq Presario CQ45-112AU
Among these two I'll suggest you to go with CQ45-112AU as you get 2gb ram + 250gb hdd to go along with X2..making it a better option.

But from the above list Compaq Presario CQ40-144TU looks the most attractive option.

Even in branded laptops I now feel its pointless to go for more expensive big name brands like Compaq, Dell, HP, Sony etc since they get their laptops manufactured in China/Taiwan etc like the smaller Taiwanese names such as Acer etc.

I had posted about a coworker's new Acer Aspire 4730z laptop which he got for about Rs. 28k with Vista Home Basic (Linux option available). 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, DVD writer, 14.1 inch 1280x800 screen, webcam, wifi etc... I installed Linux on it and everything worked smoothly by default! I was very impressed with it.

I bought a similar config HP tablet PC (with touchscreen and fingerprint reader extra thats all) a little over a year ago and it cost me Rs. 60k... yes, the prices were higher a year ago, but I bet a bigger brand name of the same config would be more expensive even today.

If u decide to buy an AMD processor based laptop, then do consider the Acer 4530. The 4530 is suited for multimedia because of the presence of the Nvidia 9100M discrete graphics.

You missed out a few important points:P

1) After sales services..O(Replacing a fried up mother board cost anywhere from 10k to 30k)

2) Design, looks, feel..Same thing in a different package can suddenly be woth the money you're shelling..

True, those could turn out to be significant...

I have an HP myself, but have heard their A.S.S. can be poor... plus reading on TE that some folks having trouble with Dell too :D I own(ed) a Sony VAIO laptop which had RAM socket issues, getting that repaired woulda cost a bomb too...

The design of the Acer is pretty decent looking... not totally stylish like HPs or Sonys or the Dell Studios, and got to wait to hear/read about Acer's A.S.S. since their popularity is only now just growing I guess.
