Hi i am new to this community and am finally gonna buy a new graphics card....... i am a gaming freak and after reading many threads, realize most of u are too!

So which card? nVidia or ATI??? My budget is around Rs. 5000 and am into FPS, RPG and Strategy games...........

i checked out nvidia, ATI sites but that is toooooo technical for me (still a novice)

I'm also planning for a core 2 duo with original intel motherboard (should i go for some other mobo?) thus i probably need a card that supports PCI xpress graphics....

wud i need a special PSU or the one that comes standard with a standard cabinet is OK???????

i've read many of ur threads... they are very informative, but not really helpful in giving a direction of thought.....

PS: Please excuse if i am writing this thread in the wrong place.......... and guide me to the right place....

Signed.

@Confused, lol, give us your budget for the card mate.

Also, some inkling of the budget for RAM, CPU, Mobo and PSU combined would be helpful too.

and Welcome to TE, how about an intro :bleh:

Cheers

my suggestion is stretch ur budget a little more and go for the xfx geforce7600gt graphics card.this is available for around 6k+tax in bangalore.best bang for the buck since dx10 cards seemed to have fared not too well so far, regarding ur psu well this will work on most psu's but to overclock this ull need a better psu,im sure some other te member could recommend a good one for u,and if ur planning to buy a c2d based computer and want to overclock then intel mobos are a strict no no,ur better off with Xfx 650i Ultra - 6k or msi neo for 5k

Oye, you did write the budget, how the heck did I am miss that, now I am :S

Anyways, like Indrajeet said, stretch the budget to some 7200 for the GPU and get a 8600GT, brands recommended in no particular order are : XFX, Sparkle, Galaxy, Leadtek.

The Galaxy 8600GT is factory OC'd and has a real cool looking and effective GPU cooler on it, comes for some 7200 odd.

If you have an uncle/cousin abroad go in for an ati else Nvidia.....ati has simply not penetrated into the indian market...and hence the higher prices and not-so-good support

go for the 8600GT its really worth the money
or go for the 8500GT only drawback is that its a DDR2 plus the 7600GT/GS beats the crap outa that thing

sunbiz_3000, totally agree with you dude!

Problem is that nvidia dont have competition in india.....else prices would have been much more competitive...and our wallets significantly heavier :)
