which router to buy?

my friend needs a ADSL router to share his broadband between 3-5 PC's so which router should he buy?

the router should have restriction options for the other PC's

suggest one router for 3 PC's & one for 5 PC's

if there are no routers with restriction options available in India then suggest a way to restrict the internet on the other PC's with a normal ADSL router

budget is 2-5k

no wifi routers please

1. Get a normal router along with the internet connection and then buy a 4/8 port switch.

OR

2.Get s router like the Billion 5200 (google it) which has options to connect 4 computers. Im sure there are more such routers but just that im not aware of them

I think you won't get a 4 port switch these days. You have to buy a 8 port switch which will serve your purpose. This option is the best and cheap. If you want cheap, you can take a look at Intex, Zebronics switches. But do not go for a hub.

yes..4 port switch is hard to find...netgear costs around 900.no idea abt dlink.u can try zebronics/similar brands if u r in search of low cost routers.

wait...one little doubt..if u r using a switch..shudnt the computer through which u share internet b on all the time(ICS)..

if thats the case..router with 4 rj45 ports r fine.

buffalo whr-g54s is a gr8 wifi router + ap + firewall + nat + intrusion detection sys.

To get access restriction u can use the firewall or flash the buffalo with tomato firmware whic allows access restrictions.

Get a Buffalo Wifi AP[wifi + 4port wired switch] + 8 Port Switch.

This solution is for Wifi + wired n/w.
