Wifi Signal Extender/Booster

Hi guys,
I have a DLINK DIR600 wireless router which helps me connect to the internet through my cable connection on my desktop and laptop(Wifi)
Now,my router is placed in the last room on the first floor and i normally have my study room on the 2nd floor in the opposite direction which doesn't give me any range for the internet connection
If i sit straight above where my router is,i do get a signal strength and good connection but thats just a workaround
The distance between the router and my laptop would be around 20-25 feet

Now,is there any way i can boost my wifi connection signal so that i'm able to work at a longer distance in my study room rather than shifting with all my material to sit just above the router on the 2nd floor ??
Any solution to this ??

No one here uses a booster ??
Come one guys,help me

I really need to get wifi working in my study room upstairs, totally frustrated with moving around just to get a signal on my laptop :annoyed:

No , not that.

Are you on default firmware ? i dont know if its available on default firmware but is available on custom ones like DD-WRT or tomato.

YOu can use another router to repeat the wifi signal, one of the good option is ASUS N13U.

Additionally you can try the parabolic reflector to direct signals towards one direction. ( Google for more info )

Thats all from me, :)

DIR 600 has a dd-wrt firmware
Will it help if i flash it on my router ?? As far as the Wifi strength is concern ??

It should increase the transmit power to a better level. But i cant guarantee anything.

Plus im a noob, i think a senior should advise you on this :D

You could use any router that can run ddwrt as a repeater..

It should solve your problems..

Although technically the throughput of the network is halved after the repeater, it doesn't really make a noticeable diff unless you doing really heavy file sharing from your main PC..

ddwrt will definitely help wifi signal and most importantly stabilise it but increase in wifi range won't be what you require here

The solution that I'm looking for is something that doesn't involve a second piece of device
There are already too many devices in the house, don't want to unnecessarily increase the hardware

Maybe I'll have to reposition the current router :banghead:
