CPU/Mobo Will Overclocking actually void the Warranty ?

Hi

I know theoretically if a processor is overclocked the warranty is Void.

But has anybody actually given a processor under warranty to Intel & AMD but was refused with the reason being overclocking ?

A better question yet would be, "Has anyone had their processors die on them?". I can think of a couple of people who were pushing it extreme but so long as you don't cross ~1.5vcore and you should be good to go. There wont be any burn marks or pins melting.

How would they know if its overclocked :p? How would you end up voiding the processor's warranty unless they are physically damaged?- which includes getting them burnt- and one of the potential ways to get them burnt is over volting it like crazy.

Even if the Processor burns, it can not be deduced that it was due to OC'ing...Just have the Intel Fan that came with the CPU handy when you take it for RMA, because Intel guys now ask for the stock fan...

Of what I am aware, one of my friends who went for an RMA was turned down by the Intel guys because he didn't carry the stock Fan along...

I did lose a quad core via some crazy OC'ing though. Guys at college were fiddling with the PC and they blew it. They said pins were burnt, so couldn't get it replaced either. Had to downgrade to an E6750 back then (yes, that was a loooong time ago).

That's a good point - didn't know.

^^^ For u, don't push the Athlon II X4 any more.... I bet u're on 1.5V already

Cuz the real bottleneck for gaming(purpose) is ur HD3850, not CPU.
