Win 7 Desktop search

Win7 is having Desktop search option in which when we open start and put anything to search, it shows the results there. But since last few days, this search option is not working properly for me.

Pls tell how to make the search settings default or update them or tell any other better option for searching the PC.

May be windows search service is disabled or indexing service is disabled.you can check by going to control panel\system and security\services
