That doesn't make sense... it's there in the 7100 build RC.
EDIT: From the thread it seems the dude/ette is located in the UK. If I remember correctly MS is facing severe restriciton in bundling software in EU after that whole Windows+IE court mess a few years ago.

I think there is no version of windows media player 11 for windows 7, because windows 7 has defaulted installed windows media player 12 and it is there in both the windows 7 ultimate version

No pal. You are wrong. Do you have the 22nd Oct release of WIN 7 ?. Its the "N" RETAIL version and this version alone (x86 and x64) is released on 22nd Oct which has no windows media player.

I tried to install WMP 11 in this version and it fails to install.

Did you check this link ?

Need windows media player for Windows 7 Professional N - Windows 7 Forums.

Who is wrong? and did you tried the download link provided in your above link

Well, if it helps, i had installed Windows 7 Professional Retail and WMP12 is already there which plays all my files also.

So, i don't see any reason to install WMP11 in Windows 7. Rest be assured that u will get WMP12. :)

afaik N versions were chopped down versions that sell for cheaper. you should probably just get a regular version

ok guys, first plz clarify this.

On 22nd , a version of windows 7 is released (with ultimate, professional, etc). These are all the "n" versions, right ?.
And these are the Retail versions, right?. The versions downloaded before 22nd of october are all RTM versions, right ?.

Now IMO the retail version is nothing but the "N" version which doesnt come with WMP12 right ??

Then what is the below one which i have ?

Windows 7 Ultimate N (x86) - DVD (English)
Includes: Ultimate N; 10/22/2009

This is the version i am having. So this is alone the RETAIL / N version, right ????

I have a Windows 7 Pro RTM version from msdn as well as Win 7 Ultimate Siganture Edition that I got from MS for the launch party. BOTH have wmp installed and working fine. Infact I never read or heard about this thing!

1. The "N" version is for the European market which doesnt include the windows media player. So the retail versions will be the normal ones and the "N" editions for European market.

2. The retail/rtm versions are basically the same.

So you mean the same RTM version which is released on 22nd July is released as a RETAIL version available for purchase in the stores ?
