Windows 10 : Usb mounted as read only

This is a work laptop and I need to take backup before I submit.
USB drive is always mounted as read only. However I'm unable to find the source of how this is managed
1) Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies is not write protected
2) Diskpart > attributes disk shows read only is not set
3) Group policy > Admin templates > storage policies has no restrictions

Still when I try to create a new folder on the drive, get the message "Destination Folder Access is denied - You need permission to perform this operation". With no way forward

Any idea if there are others ways to block the removable drive write access

I remember seeing an option on some Dell computers to enable/disable USB ports and as to have them in read-only mode. I assume this restriction is to prevent employees from making copies of sensitive data.

A painless way would be to do a cloud backup, or a network filecopy to another computer with something like https://www.d-lan.net/

Yup that is the last step. Although it's going to take time.

I remember enabling the pen drive earlier via registry. It's just that I'm not able to figure out how it is controlled in current scenario.

Most of the companies are using enterprise antivirus suits to block USB. If you had any USB boot disk , use that or create one from other system. Boot from USB and you are ready to go. Other option google drive.
