Hi guys, I have a HP pavilion DV6 1215ee laptop bought last july, which came pre installed with vista home premium OS , now my lappy is eligible for the so called ' free windows 7 upgrade ' but when I was abt to order it, the shipping charge is a whooping 39 $, so I didn't order it yet

Now one of my online friend who told me he has MSDN developer account, he can get the legit keys of microsoft products for cheaper price or sometime free, he offered me the legit key of windows 7 ultimate for 10 $ !! !,

So my question is

1. Will I be able to download all the drivers of windows 7 for my machine

2. Can I create a recovery cd incorporating all the drivers of my machine , for future restoration using any software

3.is my friend telling truth, does MSDN developers get legit keys free or for less cost??

Pls help me out.....

If your laptop is supported for Windows 7 upgrade, HP most likely will be providing driver updates online as well.
Also drivers are rarely a problem in Windows 7
.

2. Can I create a recovery cd incorporating all the drivers of my machine , for future restoration using any software

Yes, you can. I use Acronis for similar purpose.

3.is my friend telling truth, does MSDN developers get legit keys free or for less cost??

Yes, your friend is true in the sense that Windows OS keys are a part of MSDN package. But don't know why he is trying to charge you $10 for what he already has

Thanks for the reply , he told that he didn't got the key yet, once if I confirm that I need it, he can place the order and get it...

Just go with the $39 option. You will have your own disc and a legit license. Win7 doesn't seem to be goin away for a long time. It seems like the new xp. Also, the 39$ are for shipping and handling.

Spend 30 dollars for getting disc??? Is it worth???

Rather than spending 10$ on MSDN key, which will be illegal since you dont have the MSDN account yourself, go for 40$ legal way.

Or you can try contacting HP support here, and they might have a better solution for you.

The HP support are going to tell you the 39$ way. Because that is the legit way and a lot of manufacturers including acer, dell, etc.. are providing that option. If you go to the MS website, you can see the list. I am not sure but this option is available only till end of Jan or something.

illegal in the sense, I can't get updates and all??? Also I'm ready to collect the windows 7 upgrade pack from the dealer from whom I purchased the machine, will that reduce the price?? Also HP website is so confusing, can't find an email I'd to whom I have to contact???any of u know how to do it..??? Pls share.....

You can get updates as long as Microsoft doesn't block the MSDN account owner's account for selling MSDN keys.

Regarding other query, I dont have any idea.
