hi dudes. good morning.
i want to buy a printer tomorrow the basic use is printing 8 excel sheets every weekend full of borders and linings.. so i need the cheapest printer in inkjet. please suggest some. with colour or maybe black and white as budget is an issue for me cause gotta gift dad from my 1st salary. max budget 3k

Color Inkjets are already cheap and you will be able to get a good budget inkjet under 3k very easily. But what you should do consider is the ink catridge price. For example there was one lexmark model which used to sell for 2800rs and the catridge sells for 2200rs. so keep that in mind.

In my opinion HP is the best in terms of the overall quality of the product. I got a HP 3420 Color Inkjet for around 3500Rs around 3 years back. Epson I think has the cheapest catridge prices followed by HP. Also one word of advice. dont use refilling kits to save money on catridges. where ever possible, buy a original catridge and at the worst, branded and reputed thirdparty catridges. I lost an epson printer when I tried a refiled catridge.
 
buddy i suggest 2 go for canon printers or hp printers. canon cartridge is 13-15ml ink and cost Rs 850approx. whereas hp ink is 5ml and cost Rs 700. if u r goin to buy original cartridges then i suggest go for canon(compatibles r not available worldwide, noy sure abot the ink refilling ), else hp. both printers r for rs 2500 around
 
Without hesitation go for the Canon Pixma 1000. I bought it a year ago for Rs. 2400 pick up and pay with 1 year warranty. You should be able to get it for Rs. 2000 now.

Not only are canon's ink cartridges cheap but you can just forget about refilling cause I use third party cartridges that cost me about Rs. 80 for black and just over Rs. 100 for colour. In 1 year you can afford to buy a new printer with the money you save on cartridges.

The printer is excellent quality and is fast too.

Thanx Emil. I was thinking of buying the epson c45 bcoz the cartridge cost was lower than hp. Your post changed my mind.

Btw which third party cartridge are you talking about.
 
Mr. Hacker, consider my previous post(regarding price and compatibles).Canon latest models do not have compatibles yet worldwide(they use PG-40/50, cl-40/50 cartridges). but they r excellent printers. as comparable to hp it is more economical and with better performance. earlier as i suggested 2 go 4 hp only if u want refilling, go 4 canon if u plan 2 buy original cartridges. maybe canon refilling r available now(no idea), u will have 2 survey the market. And yes ip1000 is not in the market(which uses affordable cartds.). available model is ip12000. Good Luck!!!!!

Earlier I used to buy Amkette from their online shopping @ about Rs 96 and Rs. 145 for black and colour. Later I started buying another brand and I can't remember the name. I'll check the box and post it tomorrow. As far as I remember, the address on the box says some place at Goregoan in Mumbai. But I'm pretty certain they are chinese make repackaged in India. In fact I am pretty certain that Amkette is the same story too. But they work satisfactorily.

When inkjet printers first made their appearance about 10 years ago I went with Epson purely because I believed that the piezo-electric technology used for the inkjet was more reliable than the thermal technique used by HP and Canon. My expectations were belied when I actually used Epson. I have had problems with Epson in the past and that is why I wanted to avoid Epson at all costs. In fact Epson has no resale value either. My experience with Canon and HP have been far better. But overall value for money I would back Canon any day.

Hmmm, that sucks, im in pune right now, will check out the price of ip1200 here.

The printer is for my dad, he needs average quality text b/w printouts. My 6 year old epson dot matrix died 2 weeks back and the repairing cost is 3k (brand new
is 6k :S )

My main priority is low cost printer and low cartridge cost.

From their website it looks like the IP1000 has been discontinued. The current cheapest is IP1200. Here is a list of dealers in mumbai:
