Hello again

My X1800XT is apparently angry...

its running idle at 76C and with stress tests it touches 96C in 5 minutes...

This is the first day I have used this :(

Anyone has this issue..What you people think...

So now I have parked my PC with Rave and he said he will check...

Iam really worried as this doesnt have Indian warranty...:S :(

Is that an ATI or a sapphire??
96 is high... 75~80 ok

Zebby Jamaica....

proc dual core opty 170

Have to say I have the Creative Audigy 2 soundcard very near it....about 1mm clearance but people tell me thts not an issue...

-------------

Rave and I checked few things out...we put the fan full blast 100% and on load it stayed around 80..though just ran stress test for 5 min....He has his exams....he says tommo he will come up with the prob and find a solution if he can....Hope he can save me...

With fan at default it touches mid 90s within minutes....didnt want to find out if it could score a century:ill:

i say take off the heatsink, clean it and apply some as5. it shouldnt idle that high. maybe core is not making good contact or thermal compound is dried out. Just reapply.

Hmm At idle sometimes it starts at 55 goes into late 60s soon and when I run stress test "boom" mid nineties and prob still rising..didnt want to find out...n then when I stop stressing it idles at bang on 76...
Yes Rave said he would do exactly what you said...

thanks man

since I have some AS5 with me, could I do the same with the 7900GTX? Is the heatsink tougher to remove? Card isn't heating but is this advisable? can AS5 be applied directly to ram chips?

well, need AS5, anyone in hyd has some? applied some cm thermalpaste that i had over it, dosent really change the temps....

one thing to notice is that the thermal paste on it had completly dried and was not even covered properly, this was same with the x850xt as well and also with ur x1900xt aint it funy, maybe ATi needs to look into this aspect....

more detailed analysis tommorow after my exam..

and funky he cant do the same coz firstly hes got 0 experience with hardware and second his rig is with me :)

Huh...not fair...How much to courier back to chattisgarh

:@

Iam terribly upset and disapointed...Mohit...Hope u undserstand

LOL there's nothing wrong with the card if it doesn't artifact... If you are so scared about temps, download ATI tool and manually set the fan speed to higher. It'll be a lot lot cooler. Worst case, keep your cabinet open.

lol whats there to understand, i dont think anything is wrong with the card, but as i said ill look into it tommorow only, till then dont drop to any conclusions lol....

yeah.

What cabinet BTW? and whats room temp.

If its starting at 51C and not able to go back there after you run some game or rthdribl then its the lack of cool air causing this.

X1800XTs run little hotter than x1900 series though.

And i really dont expect these companies to apply thermal compound uniformly. All they do is put dough and slap the heatsink. Its practically impossible for this much finer quality control :P

Vij no need to worry as such.lol. These cards do run hot. (Welcome to the world of modern ATI cards :P )

@vandal : Never apply as5 on rams. Its capacitive and if it drips off near the leg of ram it can kill the card. Only leave it to core.

If there aint too much problem with the temp i say leave it alone. Personally i reapply AS5 on every card i buy. Got into habbit of this :P

zebby jamica, room temp 30C...

i ran this stupid gfx card stability test thing that he had installed, didnt run rthdribl or anything yet...

Oh please guys...Iam scared like hell...And I have a reason...

I cant possibly run this at 100C..n im sure it will touch 100 if u leave it 15 min with any reasonable stressing software thingy...

Cmon Iam disapointed...I have a card that touches 95 n keeps rising higher within 15 min of any game or any stress test the first day I run this thing....

I would be a rock if Iam not upset or sad...

@funky...not always does it start in the 50s...

most of the time idles in 70s and works closer to 100 maybe even higher I didnt dare run any test on this more than 10 min...ask RAVE we wer together

it went 90 n rave was like ok this will be stable atleast here...it went 91....92...93...n we still wait...it goes 94 ...95..even 96 and rising....n we had to stop..All this with the cabinet bare and open and with room temp abt 30..it was raining....

i will wait till tomorrow when rave does his magic and then suggest a possible solution (if at all needed). The card is not faulty and mohit should not be blamed for it unless he has tampered with it for e.g. removed and reapplied the heatsink etc ....

@ 90+ C temps the card is at the limit of its tolerance. not just the gpu core but the surrounding components and the banks of smd capacitors and resistors on the other side of the gpu. if they fail or get "derated" then ur card will soon start to artifact ....
perhaps vij you were not paying attention in this forums .....For ATI cards the best choice / option is to get the sapphire brand ...even if you have to pay a small premium ...and at such high prices it is better to pay a bit more for quality stuff and peace of mind.

Ok next time u buy a card and get this to happen to u first day I would like to see how u handle it...

And btw its not staying stable at 90...its not even stable at 95...

Well I was actually paying attention to the TE forum...which is why I got the card from a very respected member with good trader feedback promising me his card was perfect to the core....and Mister this was not a new card...so I was inclined to buy his opinion tht he had used it and it was fine and stable

I still hope thts the case.....coz Mohit comes across as a genuine person

@ Rave Iam not coming to conclusions...I pray Iam spared and this card works.
