Graphic Cards X1800XT Temperature Issue

Vij,

Relax man,these card run hot.this is not some ordianry card.

For now wait till Rave removes the heatsink,cleans it n reapplies the thermal paste.Lets see what happens then.

Ok just for my clarification,Rave assembled your Rig in the Case ,am i right ?

No....My dealer assembled...i took the things frm RAVE day before yest and assembled next day sitting beside the guy....

its only abt 48 hrs since I got this in my hands.....

@sid,
all moden chips have transistors which can take temps upto 120C without any significant damage for a short duration. i remember seeing intel documents during P3 days when they had claimed the p3 cpu could withstand temps upto 120 ~ 125 for a short duration ...and i had verified it by removing the h/s from the cpu and letting it run upto 113C for a few minutes on the asus cusl2 m/b. then i shut down, let it cool and re attached the h/s and restarted the m/c and it worked normally.

neverthless what not many realise is the damage this high heat causes to the peripherial components (both radiated and conducted heat) in the vicinity of the gpu. they are not rated for such high temps and get permanently derated. as it is the real estate on the gfx card is less and the components are soldered very near to each other ....this is a recipe for disaster for running the card at high temps for too long.

and i see rave and vij start the countdown too ....94 -95-96 -100-....105....and then suddenly boom ....(just like the bomb which goes of in CSS)

Hmmm....frankly speaking i dont trust these so called "Engineers" of the dealers.Most of the times they donno what the hell they are doing.Just to give you a small example -

Appo's uncles engineer was trying to flash Asus K8V-MX board with A8-MX BIOS...and then he emphatically declared the board was bad.On prompt heads up from Appo,his uncle screwed the guy royally..is another story..lol

I guess that explains the sorry state of things in India.

So i suggest you take the Rig to Rave,let him assemble it the right way.

I guess you are getting what i am saying.

There are certain protocols to be followed to assemble a machine correctly,Assembly is not that easy as these local retards think...

The Rig Is with Rave. we tested it together today

Maybe Rave should take everyth apart start frm scratch...
Well..he knows his stuff..Iam banking on him...:)

Goood.....keep trying till you completely calm down.Chill man..nothing serious has happened.
Thanks...Iam already feeling better with those words :)

well just let rave re-assemble the whole thing ...

@rave

do check it when u have time dude ..and try changing the psu as well.

@vij

stop reacting like this ... jst relax.

@mohit
I understand how you feel at all this and I want you to understand how I feel at all this...

Yeah poss things will work out

Rave is doing it ?? then good luck .....to the card i meant ...j/k ;)
btw vij when the h/s is removed ask him to remove the cover and clean the actual heatsink too. a clogged h/s hinders smooth air flow and raises the temps by 6 ~ 8 C then normal.

I loved your joke but I love ur advice better ;) .

and hey thx for that advice man...appreciate tht...

keep them coming folks.. We will keep updating on the results...and all will be well:)

The VRMs(power transistors) on the X1800XT run the highest temps, and everything else runs cooler on the card.It also matters if ur card has 5 vrms or 6, the ones with the 5 vrms (old pcb) run hotter and are more prone to instability.

OT:I sold a 512mb version of the card here for the price u paid for it,a brand new one too, that the concerned person resold it for 23k is another story!LOL, and a certain popular member from Noida was complaining about my margins!!!ROFL.
