hey guys,
i have to buy a CPU+mobo within a day and the budget is that of 6k.
the choices that i have for cpu is that of x2 240 and e5300...(i am already using e5200+g31 mobo)..the PC is being set up for my dad!
the thing is that the pc will have to run 24 hrs for 24 days a month.may be i will add a 8600gt ddr3 256mb too.
please give separate expert suggestions for x2 240 and e5200 being used with 8600 gt for 12-16 hrs a day.

thank you:)

Go for the Intel combo as you already have a dedicated GPU there is not much of an advantage due to the AMD's superior IGP

E5300+Gigabyte EG31-S2L - ~5.5-5.7k

Best combo for your needs. But running your PC for so long with a GPU will just increase your current bills. If you do ont plan to game in the system regularly then do consider the AMD combo's. As a combo they are better than the Intel's. There are two options.

i) AMD Athlon II 240(3k)+Biostar A785GE(3.3k) - ~6.3k (The biostar mobo has verey good IGP(HD4200). The only IGP which is direct x 10.1 complaint and can play HD videos and support light gaming with ease)

ii) AMD Athlon II 240(3k)+ Asus M2A74-AM(2.9k) - ~5.9k(The 740G is also way better the G31 IGP)

its around 50~55w.

its better you do not add a gpu if not planning on gaming. Even idle powerconsumptiojn of 8600GT is around 40w+.

Biostar TA 785G 128m has gr9 power saving techniques, and switches off un necessary CPU phases in idle mode.

intel e5300 + g31-Es2L is best for power saving

if i would be adding a 8600gt to x2 240 then it's going to run 4-7 hrs daily ....else it would be running 12-13 hrs without a graphic card... still e5300 is the better option?

go for X2 240 with 785 motherboard. u dont need to replace motherboard for 3yrs or so and u get a IGP too.

I had problems with 1080p movies on IGP so beware

^Probably a worthy contender then. My friend's system which has a X2 240 and a 785G (ATI HD 4200?) stutters at times while playing *some* of the 1080p blu-ray rips.

ok decided to go with e5300+g31 ......because i have used this configuration before and i didn't feel any problems while playing hd on my 1909W:)

u summed it up on the hd playing capability :S ?
the setup gonna run hd 24 hrs / 24 days a month :O

^^no dude:ashamed:
actually the RAM thread and this thread are interconnected ....so u already know the purpose ....BTW please reduce the run time to 13 hrs:)

Hd 4200 is powerful than G31. I meant to say 1080p movies( some scenes with lots of particles) stutter even on a powerful IGP like 3300.

I hv a Q.. which is off the topic.. but really wanna know.. Is there a HD4200 (RV620) based Intel Mobo?

Is there any technical difficulties in porting RV620 into intel mobo or is it just AMD-ATI vs Intel?

AMD has stopped making chipsets for Intel as far as i know, and they wont allow a good IGP from ATI stable on Intel platform :D

@microsoft

1909w is 1360*768 or somethin, and it doesnt require a capable IGP to play HD. But playing HD in a full HD screen puts stress on GPU considerably and by reviews ive seen HD 4200 is lot lot better than G31 in playing full HD, though havnt tested it myself.
