That's right, I had forgotten to attach the power connector for the CPU cooling fan. The XP-90 is a very impressive heat pipe, and tried its damnedest to passively cool a 2.6GHz Athlon 64 FX-55. In fact, I nearly burned a finger touching one of the copper fins. But eventually, the XP-90 in passive mode simply couldn't move enough heat from the FX-55. I connected the fan back up, and waited a few minutes for the mini-inferno to cool down. The good news is that I didn't burn up the FX-55. Once properly cooled, it ran without a hitch.

Any other heatsink and the CPU would have fried!!!! Thermaltake makes the best heatsinks!!!

Doesnt happen unless you enable thermal throttling/shutdown temp in the bios. This happened to me as well once... with a 3200+ and the stock cooler. Fgt to put the fan and the machine just hung up and wouldnt post. Then realised that the fan was disconnected. I thought that the cpu was probably dead. But then after letting it cool down for something like 30 mins, it was working fine as though ntn happened. These A64 chips can stand a bit of rough handling for sure :).

@Eddy: Thermaltake does have a good cooler right now. Its the TT Big Typhoon. Seems to cool as well as the xp-120 plus is cheaper too.
