For my friend; All three configurations are the same price, needs the notebook for college. Help pick one please:

1. XPS M1330

13.3" slim and light LED LCD

4GB RAM

T8300 @ 2.4GHz

nVidia 8400GSM

Possible overheating issues.

2. XPS M1530

15.4" LED LCD 1440x900

4GB RAM

T8300 @ 2.4GHz

nVidia 8600GTM

Too big to carry around?

3. Latitude D630

14.1" WXGA+

4GB RAM

T8300 @ 2.4GHz

nVidia 8400GSM

Latitude<XPS?

The XPS might look better than the latitude, but keep in mind that the latitude is the business series, so build quality etc will be pretty good. Our office has a lot of these and I havent seen any problems yet :)

So the latitudes are good for normal use :D if u can afford them.

i would say xps m1530

coz: its multimedia rich ( can run games much better, better for movies etc)

aint that heavy coz i have lifted it...

overall looks much better than latitude

college.. will he be carrying it around? the 1530 aint exactly easy to carry around.. its pretty hefty.. the 1330 with integrated intel gfx on the other hand will be nice nd easy to carry

Didn't want to make a separate thread, so posting my OT here
What is the battery life of the xps 1330 with intel onboard video and a 6 cell battery like? Will it last at least 3 and half hours with typical usage (wifi+browsing+music)

Lattitude hands down!!!!!!!
Tri-metal chassis is just one of the PROs. Lattitude is expensive also, it is rock solid, wont give nay troubles for 5-6 years.
Depends on the OPs budget! XPS are not bad either however stay away from XPS M1330.

honestly, you need to decide what you need. There is a big difference between a 13 inch screen and a 15 inch one. When i bought my 1330 in early noevember, the 1530 had alraedy been leaked.. i was pretty sure about wanting to buy a 13inch notebook. im quite happy with it.

also, could you give us ur budget.. its seems unlikely that a studio laptop should cost more than an xps considering that its been introduced between the inspiron and the xps..

remember to bargain with the CC.. i got them to gimme a 9cell battery free apart from the 6cell that was a part of the system.. so basically an extra battery.

It's just the size of the M1530 that I'm unsure of. Is it too big?

I'm getting the deals from someone in Dell, so can't tell you the prices.

XPS M1330 with 8400M GS hands down.... stop spreading FUD people :) Dell and nVidia are working together to fix the failing graphics card issue.... its fully covered under warranty... and if you have 3 year complete cover like me, its perfectly fine :)

i recommend latitude d630 .. its a mighty machine i must say.. but if you are looking for looks+graphics then XPS M1330
Well, I've got the same video card on the D630 configuration as I do on the 1330.

my 1330 has the 8400m gs.. my gpu got fried and dell replaced the mobo. the new bios - a11 and the new nvidia drivers on the dell site address the thermal issue but i dont know how well they will tackle the problem..

as long as ur machine's under warranty, u dont have to worry about anything.

regarding the size of the 1530, the length n width should be roughly the same as any other currently selling widescreen 15 inch notebook.. the height will differ. the 1530 has a tapering design.. thicker at the rear.. if you have any other notebook lying around, check its dimensions online, then compare it to the 1530 dimensions and you'll know what to expect.
