English TV series discussion

^^^

After first 2 or 3 seasons, the story line changes to other characters. So.. there is no peak moment... it kinda drags on.

Yea. I didnt like it at all. It needs your attention. It doesn't "grab" your attention. Thats where breaking bad trumps it.

Anyone following the Boss. :D :D :D

The Wire is a 10 year old show so at the time Tv broadcast was mainly 4:3. And the creators decided to stick with the 4:3 for the later seasons to maintain visual consistency.

Season 4 is the (rightly)considered the best season of The Wire and of TV history.

While the central theme is the drug trade and decay of Baltimore MA, each season is created to showcase this from a different institution like Police Department, Port Authority/longshoremen, City Hall, school system and the news in the 5 seaons respectively.

The show is never dull or slow at any time and is unlike anything you've ever seen or will see. The twist and turns and come & go in a matters of seconds. The show wasn't dumbed down in any to attract or appeal to a few wider audience and actually rewards viewers who follow the show intelligently. Although seeming like a cop show the storyline spends equal time on both sides of the law and focusses more on social commentary and I though there is violence in the show it is never the ACTION kind but is portrayed very realistically. So to summarise here the show is about realism at level which isn't possible to do again. The language, the references are totally unique and by the time your done with 5 seasons you can very call Baltimore your hometown, being that you'll have learnt soo much about it.

:)

I usually very impatient when it comes to slow progressing shows, especially when it comes to Drama. For me, the pilot episode of the show needs to be captivating, else I struggle to go through the rest, Breaking Bad being an exception. I'm sure I'll give this another shot.

How would you rate the seasons? Does it have any peak moments?

It really sucks that the aspect ratio is 4:3. :(

If you haven't seen it already, why don't you give "The Shield" a try? Watch the pilot and you'll know the pace for yourself -

I will indeed Sei. I have been going through the thread and have seen quite a lot of people share a unanimous opinion of the show. I'll have to complete Fringe's current season and then I'll get to work on The Shield. Are any of it's seasons released on Blu-Ray?

Yep. Like I have said many times in this thread, I think the first five minutes of the Wire is easily better than anything else I have seen from American television.

I've just finished the 6th season and it's been a hell of a ride. No blu-ray AFAIK..

I saw "The Shield" DVD box set seasons 1-6 for Rs. 5000 @ PlanetM on Sunday. Then, I found that there is a season 7 too which isn't included in the set.

I can confirm that there is a Season 7 but it not being present in the box set seems quite strange.

Just watched the Pilot of "Last Resort"... Best Pilot I have ever seen, at par with Prison Break..!

Show with Immense Potential, Premise & Cast.. Hope it sustains..Highly Recommended.. Plot is mentioned below - I suggest you don't read it to get the real grip..!

Plot

The show is about the renegade crew of a United States Navy Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine, the fictional USS Colorado (SSBN-753), that receives an order to launch nuclear missiles on Pakistan. When Captain Marcus Chaplin asks for confirmation he is relieved of command. His second in command also questions the orders and the vessel is fired upon. Realizing that they have been declared enemies of their own country, they set up camp on the fictional island of Sainte Marina, and declare themselves a sovereign nation with nuclear capability. At the same time, the crew must find a way to prove their innocence and find out who set them up so that they can return home to America.

Started watching American Horror Story and saw 2 episodes back-to-back yesterday. It was 1 AM by then and we called it quits. Looks like a good series to me - genuinely scary sequences and fear-inducing soundtracks. Screenplay is very very good and Jessica Lange's acting is just brilliant! :O

This is the second horror series I am watching after the Zee Horror Show that aired during the golden era of the cable TV. :p

Hey @Gannu same here,In my Case its X-Zone...remember? If You anyway feel Bored to Skim through all the episodes...jump to the two part "Halloween" episode...Its superb... @Sei yes... Can you help?

Completed the season yesterday. Did a marathon run and finished the last 6 episodes at 1 AM. :p

The finale was a complete disaster! I cannot believe the writers couldn't think of a good script to wind up which was otherwise a very good series. The entire season was good but the finale sucked completely!

They should have stopped right at the end of 11th episode but instead to chose to go ahead with another episode and show some useless sequences (another family moving in and scaring them out! WTF?). And it left us with a lot of questions unanswered as well. However, I must say Jessica Lange's performance was just brilliant throughout the season - she pulled off a really great role. No wonder her performance earned her the Golden Globe last year for the Best Supporting Actress and the Screen Actors Guild Award.

Pretty sure the rating of the entire series went down because of this sucky finale. Anyways, the next season would be based on an entirely different story. I'll grab it only after reading the reviews and ratings online.

meh , where did the island come near pakistan , so many plotholes ,its embarrassing how it got made

^^
Depends what you focus on ?

There are lots of details which are implausible in a TV Series. I for one was fine with plot hole in terms of accurate Geographical aspect of Pakistan mentioned in the series. Pakistan is located near our region and hence we have a better idea. Had it been Alaska or South America - we wouldn't have noticed/bothered.

Anyways my point is, the series as serious potential at-least as compared to other pilots / existing series.
