Hello guys, i have never bought digital game codes previously via cards.. always have bought boxed copies from online stores and redeemed them in origin/steam etc. Since the steam india pricing are so tempting want to buy few games.. tried using my sbi gold visa debit card.. didnt work, said transaction declined by bank. Want to know is sbi visa debit accepted in steam.. have union bank visa debit card too.. havent tried that yet.. any help wil be much appreciated..

Won't help. Arguing with SBI support is a futile exercise. Believe me, I've tried explaining them.
Better get a Savings Bank account from a private sector bank like ICICI, HFC, AXIS or StanChart.

OT: How does this work? Last time I tried to get an ICICI account they told me to make a 12k (draft/cheque) or a whopping 25 grand cash deposit on the account. >_>

I use ICICI debit card and it works fine for me. You need to have a Mastercard/Visa though, Maestro won't work I guess.

Does the purchase re-direct you to a merchant site for OTP? or does it directly debit the amount from your account post entering the card details?

It debits directly, you have to enter card number, validity and CVV number. Basically like a Visa/Master credit card.

Thanks! That's what I wanted to know. It did the same with my Playstation 4 game purchase. Isn't this procedure risky? I mean if someone got hold of all your debit cards info, then they can practically make a direct purchase without having to have an extra layer of security check.

With Credit Cards and Visa/Master cards, things have always been like. It is only recently that the extra security is being added in the form of OTP. Here in India, we have always had OTP. Many sites never ask for OTP with CC.

I personally haven't tried this as I already have an ICICI account(PMJDY FTW! But don't try that now, as they only give RuPay cards now on PMJDY accounts). Try installing the app and submitting the request for account. Let us know how it goes.[DOUBLEPOST=1449928763][/DOUBLEPOST]

It may be risky, but that's how card payments work across the globe. The 'extra' layer of security is just in India due to RBI.
