What is the reason Indians call others Sir, Madam or Saheb etc?

Indians this. Indians that. I get tired of the constant criticism and nitpicking of our culture. You will never be able to jump through enough hoops to please gora eyes on the internet. You will never be able to sanitize and "correct" the parts of your culture until you win white approval. And...

Kindly post Speedtest results to US, UK, etc servers with your connection details.

It's just a random guess but 92 up/down is a number I've most often seen when part of your lan is limited to fast ethernet instead of gigabit. Are you using your fibre-onu as your wifi access point? Because the wan port on it should most likely be gigabit. If you're using an additional router...

    Solar panel and stuff

Yes. The catch is those cost even more money upfront and therefore it takes even longer to breakeven. I've seen 15-20 years quoted as the time for that to happen. Hence why people avoid them. I personally think they can still make more sense though. Because you get actual power backup and the...

Weird thing I noticed last week at my home

Duracells probably have slightly higher voltages when fully charged than the cheap ones. Maybe that is enough for them to be out of spec for the clocks? Although that would have to be some poorly made clocks.

    Solar panel and stuff

The proposed rate you'd get paid for every unit you...

Weird thing I noticed last week at my home

The probability of three different cosmic rays flipping three different digital clocks is so astronomically low that ghosts would be a better explanation. And if going in that direction, some sort of firmware error in the clock's chip is much more probable than either.

Weird thing I noticed last week at my home

Not sure I get what's so scary. All 3 clocks were off by the same amount of time. That's a hint. It seems the reference used to set their time initially was off by that much. Or possibly one was used to set the others. It isn't that surprising that your dad only noticed it after you corrected...

Takes 5 minutes with the right tools. Especially for Cat 6, which doesn't have any shielding.

PC Peripherals Of PSU, UPS, PFC and Sine wave

I have a 4 year old Luminous Zelio+ 900 VA pure sinewave inverter in UPS mode. I can confirm that my PC never turns off during a power cut. This is true for both my old build using a Seasonic 520W PSU and my new one with a MSI 750GL PSU. I'm talking about the case when the PC is in normal use...

Proxmox Thread - Home Lab / Virtualization

It's arguably more about codecs than bitrate. Try playing an HEVC video in your browser. Even in 2024, browser support for H265 is atrocious. Chrome technically supports but I haven't been able to get any of my files playing smoothly. Then try downloading a torrent of a new movie, only to find...

Proxmox Thread - Home Lab / Virtualization

Ah, right. Dolby vision can't be transcoded. I suppose HDR with dynamic tone-mapping is good enough for me. I am not much of an AV purist and use a midrange TV. Transcoding still comes in quite useful because realistically a lot of your server's clients i.e friends and family will be on...

Proxmox Thread - Home Lab / Virtualization

Most people don't connect their Jellyfin/Plex server directly to their TV. You use it to deliver content over lan to your FireTV/Android TV box/Shield/etc. That way you can do HDR/atmos/etc with your personal media library as well as use any streaming apps you want. It's the best of both worlds.

(Fixed) Inverter problem - Isn't working at home.

When they tested it at the shop, did they put a significant load on it? Or was it just a light bulb? Also, have you recently added any new appliances to your house that are now connected up to the inverter? You can turn everything off, see if it stops beeping and turn things back on one by one.

Windows How to Download Large Files from Mega

If you do this a lot, you could always use a debrid service. Real-debrid costs 9 eur for 3 months. Never used megabasterd but it sounds like the download was not finalized. You could try renaming the extension to .mp4 as a hail mary and see if it plays. If not, it is probably easiest to redownload.

65" TV in the 60-80k range?

Originally thought of getting a 75", but those ones with an acceptable quality panel seem to be priced north of 1L. So a good 65" LCD (QLED/Mini-led/whatever) seems like the sweet spot. I'm looking to pick one up during this Amazon sale, while the CC/EMI discounts are plentiful. The only thing...

    Windows Arc Browser

Just from taking a look at the screenshots on their website, it looks like a browser for people who primarily use Pinterest/Tumblr/etc. That design language doesn't appeal to me at all. Can't try it yet cause I'm on Windows 10.

Installing games on a network location.

I don't think loading times would be that much worse. Last I checked, the number of games that actually took advantage of nvme speeds and used tech like Direct Storage were just a handful. And since random read/write speeds matter much more than sequential, the 2.5 gbe connection should be more...
