Hey! I'm looking for a graphics card within Rs.6000.
My PC has the following config:
Intel Core2Duo E7500 @2.93Ghz, 2GB DDR2 RAM. The motherboard is a Gigabyte S-series with PCI-E graphics interface. And it has a 400W PSU.

I have finalized GeForce 9500GT, 9600GT and th latest GT240. I have heard a lot about the GT240. It's got excellent ratings and needs a min. 350W PSU.

I do not plan to upgrade my PSU. SO i need something that will work perfectly fine on my PC.
Thanx!

If you have an el cheapo PSU then the best you can get is the green edition of 9600GT for around 4.8k.It is rated at a peak wattage of 59W, doesn't need external power and should work fine on your PSU.
GT240 is very overpriced at present and is quite a bit slower than 9600GT. 9500GT is too slow to run modern games smoothly with decent settings.

^ better to get HD4670 than 9600GT green imo.

the 400W generic will just power then... voltages will really start to freak out on rails.

it's advisable to get at least a vip 400w gold.

overall, will be close to 6k.

or if you can stretch the budget a bit... then gigabyte superb 460W would be just fine.

Performance wise:

9500 GT< GT 240< =9600 GT (Non Green ED)<< 9800 GT

GT 240 suppos to be faster than 9600 GT(64 SP) but doesn't, it has 96 SP which is replacement of 9600 GSO (96 SP). It may look good in paper but in typical usage it still bellow the par:S

9600 GT - SP 64, 65nm, DX 10. - 4.6k

9800 GT - SP 112, 65nm, DX 10 - 5.5k

GT 240 - SP 96, 40nm, DX 10.1, 7.1 int Aud support. - 6k

power consumption wise GT 240 is less or equal to 9600 GT, but has no PCI power connector though. Others requires a single 6-pin PCI conn.

Finally Best buy is 9600 GT or 9800 GT @ 4-6k range, if ur PSU can:D

Dude whatever you buy in Nvidia, remember this...

1. Buy only DDR3 memory cards. They are faster than the DDR2 variants. That is why cards with 256MB DDR3 is more expensive than 512MB DDR2.

2. More RAM is not BETTER - All that you should look at is a BUDGET card that is 256MB or MAX 512MB (9600GT), as anything above that will be overkill for the GPU as it will never be able to utilize that potential

3. 8600GT DDR3 (I own it) is faster than 9400GT. 9500GT is faster than 8600GT, but 9600GT 512DDR3 is the best budget buy for now.

4. 9800GT would have been perfect for around 5.7k for you. But your budget and PSU are prohibitive theres.

5. Try and buy Zotac cards simply becoz Zotac gives 3 years plus 2 years after you register your product online.

---UPDATE---

Just one thing...when you are buying a budget GPU forget high resolutions or forget high settings in those resolutions

I played Fallout 3 at 800X600 with 4xAA on in Mostly High settings and I had no issues whatsoever with framerates or slow downs, the game looked great, AA took care of the jaggies well and my proccy was slower than your...AMD X2 4400+. But if I wanted higher resolutions then I'd have to sacrifice detail in games which I didn't want to.

All I'm saying it's a balancing act. See what is more important. My friend still uses his ol' 7600GT but runs at 1280 res with low settings. I think the game looks like shit, but he likes higher resolutions for some reason. I just want smooth gameplay and sufficiently pretty graphics.

This debate only you can decide ;)

if ur budget is 6K... i think u can even consider getting a used 9800GT and a new PSU (gigabyte superb as suggested by madnav)... dont think 9600/240 can hold long enough

get 9600gt green edition..!!!!

guys even i was like WTF when i saw that my friend is running 9600gt(non green version) with his generic supply(i knew this before though) noe WTF part is the stats on smps. NO NO its not like 450w or like 24 amps on 12v rails. but only 10amps on 12v rail...!!!! GOD save us..!!!

this is also considerable though..!!!:eek:hyeah::eek:hyeah:

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Since i do not plan to upgrade my PSU, i have to go for something that works flawlessly on 400W. So it's either 9500/9600GT, GT240 or HD4670.

If I'm not wrong, 9800GT requires at least 500W.

Power color/XFX 1 GB HD4670 - 4.5k

Zebronics Pro 350w - 1.5k/ FSP SAGAII 350-1.6k.

Its still under your 6k budget.

Wattage of a PSU does not matter. Dont go by what companies quote as the min. PSU wattage requirement. Check out various reviews. Even with a HD4670 you system will draw ~170-200w at max load. So a 75% efficient 350w PSU can easily handle it.

Its just the efficiency and how the components of your PSU are is what really matters. Your PSU must be able to provide clean power.

If you can streach your budget little bit more then The Gigabyte Superb 460w is a Great VFM PSU ~ 2.2k.

PSU is the heart of your machine. Dont skimp on that.

nopes... 9800GT doesnt need 500W power supply.. card's max requirement is 105W.. and ur system requirement should be comfortably lower than 300W.

but as u not willing to upgrade ur generic PSU.. its better to stick with 9600GT green edition
