Android Are xiaomi phones still leaking data?

Was planning to get a Xiaomi Redmi (as the Mi3 seems like it will take forever to be available). But then came across an article citing serious security issues with Xiaomi phones sending data to chinese servers in the background.
Hence think flashing it with CM would be better idea. Has anyone tried this and if so it would be great to know if the issue still persists even with flashed phones?

AFAIK, with CM, the issue is not there.

I have tried the AOSP by Ivan and that seems to run perfectly fine..

* contacts like sabji wala , munna plumber , lukka mistry etc

LOL probably very true of "aam jantaa". Although they would probably be totally ignorant of pretty much anything (including this ), other than their day to day problems.

Not yet. Still on KitKat 4.4.4.. But It seems like there will be a Lollipop release this month.
