the other drawback of 754 config is upgradation. There wont be newer S754 CPUs for mainstream or high end. There will be cheap budget sempron releases only.
Also If you want PCI express then you will have to invest little more money.
For AGP S939 Asus A8V Deluxe is a very good board. Rock stable, good overclocker.Costs Rs.8750 through Rashi in Mumbai.(PM Me if you want this, i have 1 for sale).
For PCI express there are 2 options, ASUS A8V-E deluxe, but this is not that great from most reviews. Other option is ASUS A8N SLI deluxe which costs around 13.5K.
Couple it with Athlon 64 3000+ or 3200+ depending on your budget.
MSI and gigabyte boards are supposed to be in India but they are virtually impossible to find.

not anymore.
The current S939 Motherboards are capable of supporting dualcore CPUs that will come out in next half of the year.
And these will bring huge performance boost when it comes to multitasking.
He can even put the dual core CPU in there next year and have deascent upgrade when they will be cheap.
So it gives you an option which is good to have.
I would even say that investing in motherboard like A8N SLI or even K8N Diamond(this is MSI motherboard with PCI express support but no SLI, and costs around 10.5-11K) is a better investment. Its like good old 865 which was able to support all kinds of S478 CPUs. Be it 400Mhz or 800Mhz FSB. I used P4 2.4B and 2.6C on my ASUS P4P800 Dlx which was 865 motherboard.

o thx a lot
but plz explain me friend, AMD 64 3000 means, is it 3GHZ??...

its said that AMD 64 3000 mean 2.40GHZ.........then whats the use of the name "3000" its should be "2400"..........

also, isnt Intel 3.2 Prescott better than AMD 64 3000??? due to high FSB & L2 CACHE??

Amd 3000 64 *754(newcastle) has a core speed of I think 2ghz.But it is named 3000 as it is supposed to perform equal to a 3gz just as apple has slower core speeds.

3000+ = Performs better than 3GHz CPUs of competition (i.e. Intel)
The 3000+ runs at 2 GHz (socket 754) and 1.8GHz (socket 939)

Avoid prescotts like plague unless your doing media encoding 24/7. They suck at just about everything other than that compared to the A64 of the same price. Also they have severe heating issues (presshot :p)

I guess you are not aware that AMD names their products according to PR Rating policy.
AMD 3000+ is supposed perform equal to P4 3 Gigs.

also, isnt Intel 3.2 Prescott better than AMD 64 3000??? due to high FSB & L2 CACHE??
Hmmmm
Looks like AMD isnt for people like you.Go ahead and buy an Intel based machine.
After doing so meet me sometime,we will bench both, urs and my machines, what say ? ;)

Well let me try explaining you in simple words...

The FSB speeds dosent matter as much... The AMD Naming convention is by its PR rating... BY AMD 64 3200 we should understand that it will run and perform as good as a Pentium 3.2 GHz chip while actual clock speed of the processor being 2 GHz.

A good setup right now would be an Ideal mix of a High end Mobo and a fast CPU... Try goig in for a 939 based platform... AMD 64 is available in two sockets... 754(older) and 939(newer)...

The benifits of 939 is that it is based on 90nm nano technology so the chip is smaller and it heats up less than the 754 based chip which is based on 130nm based technology.

If you would take both Socket 939 and socket 754 based AMD Athlon 64 3200+ than they both would perform equally in real world. The idea behind going in for a 939 based platform also is the support for PCI Xpress based graphics card which is only available for socket 939 as of now.

Hope this helps...

P.S. For a good CPU + Mobo combo ask guys out here. But before you do that, zero down on a graphics card cause that would decide which mobo to go for and which would lead to finilasing of the chipset.
