Hi guys,

I am interested in buying a video card. I have an Xbox 360, and I am interested in playing games like Starcraft II (quote very important) and other "small" games like Flock, Bionic Commando, TorchLight, Zombie Driver, etc., which card would you recommend ? I can play "high-end games" on my Xbox 360 :)

Here's my current config...

Intel C2D 2.20 Ghz E4500.

Intel 945GCNL mobo (max memory 2 GB DDR2).

Kingston 2 GB DDR2 Ram.

Shitty onboard vid card.

Dell S2409 24" Full HD monitor.

Sony DVD+RW

Seagate 160 GB HDD (OS).

Seagate 1 TB HDD (Slave - contains data, like movies, etc.)

I will NOT be making any changes in my PC components, not at least for another year and a half :) I am willing to buy a good PSU though :) Currently, I have a 300 or 350 watt VIP PSU :)

Budget - 6 to 8k if it is necessary (excluding PSU) :)

Been running a measly 4650(or something like it) for a while. Need to dump it for some reason. I don't game often and dont see myself playing for long hours in next couple of years. But I am looking for a performance card rather than budget card. I use 2 monitors now, and if possible I'd like to increase that to 3, but thats not a compulsion.

What is your budget: 6-8k

Current rig Specs

CPU: E6600

Motherboard: P5B dlx wifi

RAM: Gskill 4x1GBHZ

Monitor: 2 x Dell 228WFP

PSU: Tagan 700W

Primary use: Movies/productity/multiple monitor setup

What resolution do you game on: Whichever runs(doesn't really matter)

Interested in Crossfire/SLI: No

Open to both Nvidia/ATI: 1st preference to nVidia as I plan to work on CUDA. If 5xxx series brings something groundbreaking from DX 11 point of view I may consider ATI as well.

Also I don't mind a second hand card as long as its in warranty. (If someone is looking to sell one, let me know your card and price.)

Get a 4870 512 MB GDDR5. IT will cost your ~8.2k. But if you can increase your budget a little bit, get the 1GB version as you will be using more than one display. But be sure that you are getting the GDDR5 version not the DDR3.

Any other suggestions? I'd prefer nVidia or a next gen card over 4870. Something with equivalent power of 4850 will do.

Add 1k to your budget and get your self a HD5750..

Not that powerful, but good for multi display with eyefinity.. :)

will probably go for this then. I have a crossfire board. I may scale number of monitors with grouping another card.

One question, The PCI E slots are 16x and 8x. does it bring down performance because both slots will not be running at 16x speed?

btw, nothing from nvidia stables? I can add another 2k if I get a good card in GTX2xxx series in 10k.

For crossfire your motherboard will arrange to:

2 x PCI-E x16 (blue @ x16 mode, black @ x2 or x4 mode)

You will see a decrease in performance here. A x8 x8 Crossfire is around 10-15% lower in performance compared to full x16 x16. No point really going for crossfire with your board. Get a beefy strong card.

Specs:

Intel C2D E7300 @2.66GHz

ASUS P5KPL-CM [Forgot to add : 1 x PCI-E x16]

2 GB RAM

XFX 8600GT 512MB DDR3

250GB HDD

Presently I've got a 450W Zebronics PSU but willing to upgrade <not more than Rs. 1000-1500, plz>.

Resolution is 1280x720.

I'm into intense gaming<MW2, Crysis, STALKER, Mass Effect, Dead Space, DiRT 2 & the likes>

SLI/Crossfire is not an option with my mobo AFAIK.

No fascination for any brand.

I'd like to add that I'm not looking to buy it at this very moment. But would like to know my options. But certainly won't wait more than 3 months.

Any help would immensely appreciated. Thank you.... :bye1:

I think you can wait for 3 months. cards like HD5670 and Nvidia fermi will be out so you can choose what suits you .
BTW what resolution do you game at?

Yeah, advisable to wait..

It is suspected that HD5670 will launch soon..

The resolution you game on is quite low..

so you be needing a top end card to satisfy your needs..

so, its advisable to wait and collect more moolah for 3 months..

till then...maybe few new GPU will be launched...even if they dont..

the prices of current GPU will fall..

The fermi is somewhat expected in march..

so you can expect lot of competitive pricing..

ATI 5670 is getting launched in 14th Jan and so it will definitely be available by 15th February. That will be more more than enough for your resolution...but it think you need to update your monitor for good gaming experience...

At that budget, it will be a better option..

A second hand HD4670 is a good option..

At that budget a HD4890 is a good choice,
but since HD5830 is in news, maybe it will be launched soon ..

It will be as powerful as a HD4890, will consume less power and will be futureproof with DX11..
So it should be a good choice..

If waiting is not an option a HD5770 is what you should get as you are into casual gaming..
