How to differentiate SMARTPHONE from normal cell phone??

Hi, I am doing study on consumers changing preference towards smartphone over cell phone.

I searched on internet but cant get full proof differentiation. so Experts please enlight me on this issue. Also which are leading brands in smartphone in india???

smartphones are the ones with good os like windows or android or any other, they have good processors and also RAM

leading smartphone brands in india are apple, blackberry, htc, samsung,
 
A cellphone is *predominantly* meant to take make and recieve calls, text, snap pics, be lighter, cheaper, basic user functions as already mentioned.
A Smartphone in contrast to a cellphone has all the basic functions which is already there in a cellphone plus has advanced functions of a PDA- Personal Data Assistant (like Personal Information Management, Word Processor and Office Suite etc)
But Lately this definition has actually gotten more simpler (Plus Smartphone like functions are already being incorporated in Cellphones as well so it has become a little confusing per se), One can say a Smartphone would be a smartphone if its loaded with an Android Os, Or a RIM OS, iOS etc The phones which doesnt have a full fledged OS like for e.g., Nokia 6600, That is a shining example of a Cellphone. A perfect example of a Smartphone is (you guessed it!) its................. IPhone
