Hello, everyone,

My mum's desktop had a few problems and I had to replace the motherboard. I had an old Abit AW-8 lying around so I used that. This motherboard doesn't have on-board graphics so I had to use an old 8400 GS that I borrowed from a friend. I'm planning on getting something like an ATI 4350. Will that be able to handle playing 1920×1080 video (say from Youtube) on a Benq G2200HD? Any better suggestions?

Thanks for reading.

The 4350 works fine for HD video. At that price point you could also look at the Nvidia GT 210. Personally I'd stick with the 4350

Altohough I would like to know how you are getting 1920x1080 video on youtube!

HD 4350 recommended all the way... You can try newer HD5450 but they cost more & perform almost same on HD front compared to 4350.. even power consumption is same which I must say is quite low...

I am using it on my older A64 download rig which serve as HTPC as well...

Thanks for the tip. What if my options were an ATI 4350 1 GB or an 8600 GT 256 MB both at Rs. 2.6k? I can't seem to find the 512 MB ATI 4350 anywhere or it would be an instant purchase.

You can get 1920×1080 on some videos I think. It shows up in the little resolution selector. At least it says 1080p which I think is 1920×1080.

Ah, I see, I think I'll stick with the 4350 of those two.

You won't see much difference in the quality of the video in either of those cards. The advantage the 4350 offers here is the power consumption. It's a low power card and all the ones I've come across are passivley cooled (no fan).

The only reason to go for the 8600 GT is 3D perfomance. But I'm assumming that 3D doesn't figure into your purchase.

Oh. Also Amarbir seems to have the 512 MB 4350 listed on his website. Powercolor HD 4350 512MB DDR-II ? Lynx - The Audio , Electronics & Computer Online Superstore In India

UPDATE:

I connected Samsung B2230 ( 1920 x 1080) LCD monitor to old P4 with 845 chipset motherboard

When I played normal 700Mb and 1.4GB dvdrips, it played fine, both windowed and full screen. Even Desktop work, MS WORD, EXEL, OPERA etc., was also very well handled by onboard GFX chip at 1920*1080.

Only 720p and higher videos gave problem. But that was there with his old 15" CRT too, which means the onboard 845 GFX chip can not handle 720p regardless the screen resolution.

So for watching normal DVDRips (0.7 and 1.4GB), most of the onboard GFX will do fine.
No need to spend on a dedicated GFX just for watching movies.

720p files worked with 6600GT on another PC ( C2D, 2GB)

^--- Err.. Did you post in the wrong thread? This is a couple of months old.

Most onboard GFX cards aren't very good at playing video at 1080 resoultion. The OP wanted a card that played video at that resolution. Besides, the OP didn't have an onboard card.
