Re: unlocking cache athlon x4 620

Hi,

AFAIK, Athlon 2 X4 620 (Propus) do not physically posses any L3 cache. So there's nothing to unlock.

I remember reading something about (very) early batches of X4 620 (non-Propus) were unlockable. But I highly doubt these are still in circulation.

Googling should help you confirm this.

Ah, here's a good source.

AMD Athlon II X4 620 review

The initial Athlon II X4 samples actually were Deneb based and as such some of the early samples were able to have their L3 caches unlocked. This is a thing of the past now as AMD switched over to the less expensive 'Propus' design for the Athlon II X4 620 and 630. Propus doesn't have any physical 6MB L3 cache at all, so your chances of activating it using the ACC will be really slim unless you run into a very early production batch.

Re: mobo suggestion

u need not to switch to DDR3 RAM...since performance is almost similar at these bandwidths. AM3 boards also works with DDR3 RAM at 1333Mhz. And also performance diff in 1333-1600Mhz is not noticeable. So keep ur DDR2 at 1200 n hav fun!

Re: mobo suggestion

DDR3 RAM will not work if you insert it in DDR2 RAM slot.
You need to buy a new motherboard which supports DDR3 RAM, if you need to use DDR3 RAM.
