Components Description Price (INR)

Processor AMD Phenom II X2 555BE/ AMD Athlon II X4 635 4900

Motherboard Gigabyte MA785GMT-USB3 5600

RAM 2GB 1333MHz Kingston DDRIII RAM 2600

HDD 500 GB WD Blue 2100

GPU Sapphire 1GB DDR3 HD4670/ Sapphire 512MB DDR5 HD5670 4400/5400

Cabinet CM Elite 310/NZXT Gamma 1600/2100

PSU/SMPS Corsair CX400 2700

Total 23400/24900

  • For your needs a Athlon Quad is more than enough for few more years. Even the dual core PhenomII X2 555BE would do. Plus if you are lucky who might be able to unlock the PhenomII X2 555BE into PhenomII X4 955BE :D (~80% success rate)

  • The CX400 will do fine for your needs and will last a couple of upgrades too. If u feel u need 5 yrs warranty go with the VX450 as the CX400 has only 3 years warranty.

  • NZXT Gamma is one of the best Cabbies in the 2.5k range. Check it out. PrimeABGB in lammy stocks it. They are NZXT dealers too IINM.

  • Try to get the 512MB version of the HD5670. Costs about 5-5.5k and performance boost of 15-20% wrt HD4670. But off late only 1GB veresion which costs 6.4k is available in the market which is not that value for money option as the performance difference between 512MB and 1GB version of the HD5670 is hardly 2-3%

so does yout GF love pink colour font typing :p

as mention darkangel would recommend this config is better and the 550 x/2 can be unlock to quad is more than 90 % does work

at least u should try 1 TB for better future proof it cost extra 1.2 buck ;)

Dark Angle thanks for the post.

If anyone could also give me an equivalent Intel config that would be nice.

Intel i3 530 - ~5.7k

Intel DH55HC - ~5.3k

Rest same as above. Get the Intel board if you do not wish to overclock the processor. There is a Gigabyte variant for the H55 chipset but slightly expensive as well.

That said, it isn't worthwhile to go with the Intel setup. The Phenom setup should be better than this.

u wont be able to fit in a quad that easy with a intel config ... even the newer dual core i3 + motherboard will come close to 11k sh better to go with AMD as DA suggested if you want quad core.

Going with AMD you can get feature rich mobos with USB 3.0 under 6k. But the cheapest USB 3.0 in the market for intel is Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 ~ 7.3k. You wont be using them immdiately. But if you are planning to keep the rig for 2-3 yrs at least then by ten you will enjoy the faster speeds of USB 3.0. (As of now USB 3.0 external HDD and pen drives are costly).

As Desecrator says the Core i-3 530 is the only Intel option worth considering with your budget. But going with the PhenonII X2 555BE/AthlonII X4 635 is more bang for buck IMO.
