After Karbonn, Spice has teased what could be its first Android One smartphone. Just like Karbonn, the Spice smartphone would also be revealed on September 15th at 3:30 PM. Unlike Karbonn who have partnered with Snapdeal, Spice has partnered with Flipkart to sell the smartphone exclusively.

Karbonn’s teaser that was just a sketch, but Spice gives us a sneak peek of the smartphone in the teaser. Other things such as specifications are not clear at the moment, but it is likely to be similar to the reference device.

Google’s Android One initiative aims to offer sub $100 (Rs. 6000 approx.) smartphones based on reference hardware and stock software. Micromax, Karbonn and Spice were announced as the first Android One partners back in June at the Google I/O developer event. Micromax is yet to reveal their Android One plans for September 15.

Google has scheduled an event on September 15th, Monday at 12 noon, where it is expected to launch its first Android One smartphones.

So thats why Xiaomi went ape-bat and sold a half baked redmi in the indian market.
Xiaomi is playing a losing game, one hand they had abandoned the Mi3, and they will be directly battling the android one sets with redmi which comes to stock one every full moon. Powerbanks and pistons went off stock weeks ago.

updates come directly from Google, and Google has optimized the software.

I know about that, but was wondering about the specific hardware config that Spice has come up with. Spec-wise it should have been a device like Redmi 1S. Anyway the OEM would be some obscure Chinese company. Would be interesting to see what MMX and Kbn come up with tomorrow.

I just want to know, how do they plan to give updates when the chipset is mediatek? Last I heard, it is upon mediatek to release the updates ( for all phones using mediatek chips) because they dont release the codes.

If the software is really controlled by google, these phones might actually be good, because in terms of raw power, mt6582 (which looks like the soc in use) is pretty good.

Right and if they delay then google can blame them. So the net result is no different to you as the user but these companies got google to endorse them.

The question of support is forgotten here completely, will it improve as a result of android one ? why should it. Quality support costs money and these are low cost phones.

So yes android one is good so long as your phone does not break and mediatek releases updates. It's a slight improvement over the status quo until i hear more.
