As of now, i am using a 5600+ X2 Athlon processor and 690V Gigabyte MotherBoard.I would like to upgrade my PC to a 555BE P II system temporarily with keeping the same mobo for 3-4 Months. Then i will go to a 785/8XX based <5k mobo. I am using a HD 4670 GFX card.My doubt is will my present MOBO do justice to the 555BE's potential..and there is some issue regarding some HT 1.0 and V 3.0...can u guys plz educate me in this regard...

And,buying both Mobo and CPU as of now is not an option.....:(

If u are using IGP then the HT 1.0 might act as a bottle neck and affect IGP performance. But if u aree using a discrete GPU then its not a big issue in using a AM3 processor in a HT 1.0 mobo IINM. Wait for others to comment/confirm.

Whats the use of upgrading to a marginally faster dual core? Get a quad core instead.
Even if your m/b won't let the cpu perform at a 100%, it'll still be noticeably better than what you have right now.
And why change your m/b? If the new cpu runs fine here, there's no need. Upgrade your gpu/ram instead.

What i think......is go for P II 555BE now........and get 785/8xx series mobo later coz u can unlock its 2 extra cores............as i have done it on MSI 785G-E53 mobo.........but u'll need a gud PSU Gigabyte 460W or CM Xtreme Power Plus 600W...........when unlocked u'll get equivalent performance of P II X4 955........

Thanx for the replies,Thanx DA for clearing a few things abt HT 1 vs 3.Iamddevil, i dont think performance difference will be marginal.i had built a P II 550 system for my friend,i think i installed XP in around 13 Mins.It takes around 25-30 mins on my PC.Cant go for a 125 Watt Quad ...as i wud like to stick on to my cheapo Zebby SMPS.Will be getting a 555BE by monthend...BIOS update is a must for it though..Thanx again for all the replies.
