Graphic Cards To upgrade a 4870 x2 or not

So I thought since Battlefield 3 an arkham city is coming out soon, maybe I should upgrade my msi 4870 x2 from its duties that it has performed flawlessly for the past 4 years. Am a casual gamer, so do you guys think i should upgrade now?

Rest of my specs.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
MSI X58
G.Skill 2x2GB DDR3
Tagan 800w PSU
Benq E2200 (1080P gaming resolution)
Thanks.

not worth cause the 4870 x/2 is outdated, and no DX11 support and need more power

so what is your budget

if your budget is 7-11k then get from 6770 to 6950 depend on budget

Yes and no.

The right upgrade for a 4870 x 2 is 2x 6950 or 2x 6970, or a 6990. Assuming of course, you have the right screen size (4MP+)

If your screen is a single ~22-23" @1920x resolution, a single 6950/6970 is usually enough depending on what games you play and what level of detail you're looking for.

I recently went from a single 4870x2 to two 6970s in Crossfire. Running 2560x1600, the cards are still the bottleneck for my system when graphics details are cranked to max.

Cards are not even able to properly do EQ-AA at 12x at that resolution, and that too in a game like NFS Shift which is a year old DX10 title. The 6970 pair are not much better than the 4870x2 at older titles when graphics quality is maxed out at full resolution. Oblivion sees a max of 10-15fps gain from the x2 to a pair of crossfired 6970s.

At lower resolution, things are different obviously.

^Arkham City uses the UE 3 so not a biggie. MW 3 runs on Infinity Ward's MW3 engine which is supposedly (and unofficially) the IW 5.0. Some claim that it is a heavily modified version of their previous engine - IW 4.0. So it shouldn't be a system hog either.

Thanks Gannu, so is BF3 the only title that warrants an upgrade to a dx11 card, would the gtx 580 be overkill for my current rig gaming @ 1080p with most detail on

^Out of the several titles released this year, BF3 is one. RAGE is another. Since NFS: The Run is based on BF3's Frostbite 2 engine, I believe it is going to be the another system hog. Not very sure about TES V: Skyrim.

GTX570 or the HD6950/70 2GB should be just fine. :)
