Its for a Duranto train. Availability was in ample.
Booked First AC coach with preference Lower birth.

Payment and everything went smooth.

After successful payment where it displays our ticket for printing, this is what it showed:

No Coach and Seat/Berth allocated.

This is first time I have booked for a First AC so dont know if this is a regular routine or what.

In first AC train, the coach number is alloted much later, at the station. Because of the separate coupe things.
Because things can get awkward if there is, say a 23 year old chick and a 25 year old guy, who are automatically accommodated in a lockable 2-seater coupe.
I believe all 1AC charts are made by hand.

it'll make more sense if you flip the numbers. this is awkward:
23 yr old chick with 52 year old guy or
32 yr old auntie and 25 yr stud :p

youngsters of same age group won't feel awkward... they'll be happy instead :D

OP: no idea about your issue. i always write to irctc and i get prompt and to the point responses... each time.

1st is very awkward, especially if the uncle is tharki types.
2nd may actually turn out to be good, as it is known that a vast mojority of indian women are sexually unsatisfied. And 32 year old isn't exactly an aunty.

@OP
No need to. In 1st AC, you always get the names on the chart and not beforehand. Speaking from my many times personal experience.

As mentioned by @AMG, 1st AC charts are prepared and displayed in the station before the train departs. Until then, you are just guaranteed a berth. Upper or lower, 2 person coupe or 4 person coupe, everything you will come to know only when the chart is prepared.
I believe it has more to do with giving priorities for couples and families and VIPs. A 3 member family ideally prefers a 4 person coupe. Similarly, 2 couples can share a 4 person coupe. Individual travellers, OTOH, can be accommodated anywhere. And 2 person coupes are mostly reserved for VIPs.

U will get a message with the details of the Cabin (A/B/C) and the berth upper or lower on the day of journey when the chart is prepared. Incase u did not receive the message check with the PNR #.

final charts are usually prepared 4 hours before departure. you can also check with the pnr number on the website.
Anyway you need not worry as it says reserved so a seat is guaranteed.

What the hell is wrong with irctc?
Just now booked a Garibrath ticket and same scenario. No coach and Berth no. mentioned. And no trace of bedding as well.

No bedding shedding in garibrath. The name says it all.
Of course I know that but theres an option to pay for it in advance while booking on irctc itself.

There is an option to get bedroll after paying 25 Rs.[DOUBLEPOST=1433781931][/DOUBLEPOST]

:O o_O

Unfortunately the journey was yesterday evening and to everybodys shock there was shortage of 730 bed rolls. Now how the hell is Indian rail managing here?? The attendant gave no blankets seeking shortage reasons and made way with just bedsheets.
This is the last time somebody might prefer this cheap train. :rage:

Even though the doubt has been cleared, In 1st AC, seats are allotted only during chart preparation as it is done manually - i.e. whether to allot 2-person coupe or 4-person cabin depending upon no. of persons in one ticket, age, sex and other factors.
