Reliance communications has slashed the tariff plans for its 3G data packs by almost 50%, making it comparable to the 2G data tariffs.

Now 1GB of 3G data will cost Rs 123, while users had to paid Rs 125 for 1GB 2G data till now. 2GB and 4GB 3G data packs now cost Rs 246 and Rs 492 respectively. After the pack is exhausted, users will have to pay 3 paisa per 10KB of usage.

Reliance is also offering 2GB free data for first two months free for those customers who port their numbers to its network.

Reliance has 3G services in 13 circles including states of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Assam and North East.

This is a significant drop in 3G tariffs, other operators may follow the suit soon which may lead to price wars. But no operator has offered truly unlimited 3G plans yet which many customers desire.

This is amazing. Hope other carriers follow through. It's time 3G finally becomes affordable in India for bigger data caps. This looks like a good start.

Docomo was already giving 3gb for 350

3g is nearly over beacuse 4g lte in its initial stages is cheaper in higher data plans .... More efficient fot isps and users
Next year will be LTE year .

In the mean time i hope 3g comes down like 500 for 10GB

3G isn't even half done. IMO it will take at least two more years for 4G to make its presence felt.
And talking about 4G LTE how many phones do support it that are available in India?

iPhone 5, HTC One, One SV, WP 8X, Nexus 4, Lumia 820/920, Galaxy SIII/S4/Mega 6.3, Xperia SP/V/Z/ZL/ZR. That's just from the top of my mind, any mistakes here? Any other phones left out?

The new flagships releasing this fall and next year can all include LTE in them, so I wouldn't say 4G is that far away. The real question is the pricing and the plans on offer.

Lte will be more present in coming two in all major cities .
3g wont get more spread too much simply coz lte and 3g use different technologies and its much efficient for isp to provide lte than 3g even in initial stages

Airtel provides lte in chandigarh 999 for 10 gb .. Same as 3g

And 4g has lot of potential the lte advanced supports upto 1gbps
So 3g wont be considerd as its expensive for providers to provide data at low costs evn compared to lte
LTE is the future and it will be a little sooner than we expect

Indian S3 version doesn't have LTE. AFAIK Nexus 4 doesn't support LTE.
SV and Xperia V not launched.
The point is people with these LTE-supported phones are a very small percentage compared to one with 3G.
So unless we have affordable LTE-supporting phones its penetration is only going to be slow.

In which part of the world have you seen this? 1Gbit/s on 4G?
Providers are struggling hard to provide 40-50mbit/s( Overseas) Speeds and you are talking about up to 1gbit/s? Oh may be you're talking about the tests which are going on.. don't see that happen at least in next 5 years in India.

3G tariff plans are Costly because the Spectrum which the operators bought was at an higher price and Cost of 3G equipment is also higher.
where as 4G Spectrum was cheap and the 4G Equipments are also cheaper.
Airtel 4G plans are purely designed for milking customers. They could do 20gb for 1k but that will only happen when there are multiple 4G providers (competition)

Precisely, They are in a plan to collect the Amount they lost during auctions That is why they launched earlier than other operators.
For Example: Airtel will be spending nearly 8,300 Crore for spectrum in 8 circles. (1040Cr per circle)
- Reliance Jio Infocomm bought spectrum in 22 circles for nearly 12,900crore. (586 Crore for Each circle) :p

Airtel is an fool. Looks like i completely deviated the Actual Topic.. Anyways everyone needs to know this :)

@swatkats That's on topic actually :)

Airtel's 4G is also not compatible with mainstream phones such as the Lumia 920, SIII and iPhone 5. I think they use the 2.3GHz frequencies.

Not sure about SIII, confused between various international models. Nexus 4 definitely supports LTE though; saw it on reddit. Requires flashing or maybe an update in the future; the hardware supports it.

Whatever the price of spectrum and 3G spectrum being costly than 4G, this does not matter to end user and also these companies are no saint, they will never want to pass the benefits to customers. So even if they got 4G spectrum free, they will still advertise the hell out of 4G and sell overpriced hardware and even more overpriced plans.
Don't expect 4G on phones to be cheap especially in initial stages and they are also going to cap speeds and put fcking FUP. Anyone who believes otherwise is living in a figment of imagination.
