Sorry to post here, as unable to find appropriate place for...

Friends,

Since past 15-20 days, my system, suddenly restarts 3-4 time (Mother Board Power LED keep glowing-stable, Processor FAN & Cabinet fan restart 3-4 time) and than all ok.

While this 3-4 time sudden back-to-back restarts (no display at all).

System Config:
i5- 2400Intel DH67BL Board
RAM Gskill (4gb x 2) and Transcend (4GB x2 ) = Total 16GB
1 TB - WD Blue HDD (less than 1 year old)
MSI R7 240 2GD3 (2GB) Graphic Card (less than 1 year old)
Front & Back FAN
Seasonic PSU 450 (8 yrs old)

Any suggestion/guess what might went wrong or about to go kaput?

Thank you

Note: Mods, if it's not proper place for such type of thread, please feel free to move at appropriate ...

Start pc without drives, also remove 2 ram sticks and try with only 2 slots populated.

... but it restarts randomly, not always... so once it starts OK than no issue till issue strikes ( just 3rd time today in last 15-20 days and is randomly).

Thank you for reply

You can try to resolve the distributedcom error using solution 1

See if this stabilies the system. Also keep windows updated

If doesnt work, it could be RAM or SMPS issue. Try with 1 or 2 rams in different slots to see if system is stable for a day or 2.
could be possible that smps is old and giving issues. Can you calculate the system requirement and see if the smps is able to efficiently power the PC ?

Hi,

solution 1 means >> Solution 1: Deleting Registry Keys, right?

Any good website to calculate Power Consumption of PC Components?

Thank you for reply

@puns

After going through Seasonic website for system power requirements, I got following suggestion (result).

yes solution 1.
your wattage requirement seems ok for the PSU then. Its another matter if its having some issue as its 8 years old.
Do the resgistry keys thing and also test out the RAMs. Hope windows is fully updated. A fresh install can also clear issues if its a driver or software related problem if other methods dont solve the problem

Hi Emperor,
If possible run the windows for a time in safe mode and observe. Also keep an eye on the cpu temperature that might also give you a clue. rams go bad all the times, if possible please run a memtest86 for a cycle or two this will help in narrowing down the list. If you don't mind me saying get a GNU/Linux live distro of your choice and run it for a time, this might help in identifying if its a h/w or s/w problem.

I have only one system with DDR3 and can't keep it off (for testing etc.) between working hours (10AM to 10 PM).
About, GNU/Linux live distro , sorry but I really do not know how to do that and how to read reports to check if issue with H/w or S/W... can you suggest more...

Thank you for help

Here is what I had in my mind when I posted,

Problem Identification
1. System restarts due to either h/w or s/w issue or both.
2. To isolate the s/w issue I wanted to run a completely new os, the easier way to do it is to run a live os.
3. If the system doesn't restart when running the new os, then the problem is within the Windows OS
4. If the system does reboot then the problem is with the hardware.

Fixing the problem(s/w)
1. Completely get rid of all the installed drivers and reinstall them one by one and check
2. we can also reinstall the windows OS , just to be safe.

Fixing the problem(h/w)
1. Start with CPU temperature monitoring
2. Run Memtest86 program to check for issued with memory
3. Stress test the system, buy running CPU/GPU in full throttle and checking if the PSU is able to keep up.

Regarding running a GNU/Linux os in live mode,
please visit https://www.slax.org/#purchase to download the iso image at the bottom
use Rufus from https://rufus.ie/ to write the iso to a USB disk
and boot from USB disk to run the live os.

For stress testing on GNU/Linux, you can use the followning
For CPU - stress-ng
For GPU - gputest
For RAM - Memtest86 from https://www.memtest86.com use Rufus to write the iso to USB to boot.

Hope this helps,

If you need any help, please post back I will do what I can.

Thank you

Interesting, my first instinct would be to say the memory is going bad and run memory tests.

Its surprising that most errors can be tracked from event viewer. software and hardware issues. should try seeing the logs first unless system doesnt start or something like that.

Hi Emperor,
No problem, glad to hear that your system has stabilized without the need to do lot of those steps :)

Sorry Friends, (Latest Updates)

on last Sunday (nearly after 15-20 days) . System again act same (reboot of it's own 3-4 times so quickly that monitor unable to get lit/on).

I did following 2 things:-
  1. I just replace (8 year old) SeaSonic Power Supply with Latest New iball 230V Power Supply (was with secondary System with DDR 4 Sticks), and since last 4 days... no sign.... but ( ONLY BlueStack Fridge some time and need to restart BleuStack App only.)
  2. Removed Memory Sticks and again placed replacing each others socket (home you can understand what I mean).
Wish to check Memory Sticks with MetTest86, but unable to spare that much time (unable to keep system ideal for 3-4 or till it complete test to check DDR3 - 4GB x 4 sticks)

No Restart notice with system since (with iball SMPS) last 4 days and finger crossed.

Thank you for

PS: Forget one thing to mentioned in First Post that before this sudden (3-4 quick restart incidents took place), for nearly a month, when I boot system in morning for FIRST TIME BOOT, it sound very short & low tone beep (and system ON wihotut any message or issue etc.)

Sure. You may have different issues and SMPS is likely one of them. Get a better one immediately as iball will not handle for long time.

I'm planning to buy New System (buy Diwali or December 2019), most probably Ryzen 5 3600 (if BOTH CPU & Motherboard price came down).

So want to continue with existing system till time.

Any suggestion for PSU (it should suffice to run for planned New System)?

Thank you
