With the Budget due by month end, do you think the prices will go further north or could we see some duty cuts as 2014 is an election year?
 
Workstation config looks good but what if i want a nvidia card with good amount of cuda cores which can run games at 1680 resolution.

Then start shelling out ~1,00,000/- and above for a workstation card that can meet your gaming demands at that resolution.

One addition thou, if you need an overall good processor, definitely Intel but if the PC is only and only for gaming, 8350 beats the i5 and i7 in most of the games.
And the ones if which it loses is by a low margin. But the Intel's lose by freaking 50 fps also in some games.

Why someone should spend in FM1 platform which has no upgrade part? OTOH you can get Fm2/Trinity at similar price with atleast 2 future upgrade !

P.S. -- You had bought a Trinity RIG and had given me a few prices, can you PM those to me and what happened to your SMPS purchase?

Roger. By the way can you have this thread sticky in place of the older guide (if I'm not being to forward in that request).

I suggest you go for the Seasonic SMPS then, XFX is based on their platform's so I really don't see a great difference apart from the badge and labelled wattage.

Depends, I am no economist so will not pass naive comments and then eat them later.

Computer peripherals and other such niche products are rarely affected by the economic turbulence and shuffling associated with election posturing, for all intents with the myriad sops the government will announce during the budget we might see the duties on these increasing to make up for the cuts in the other rates. Wait and watch is the game right now. =|

Thank you Terrence, Sire, for absolute discrete HTPC builds these cabinets are great but the pricing is atrocious. Maybe will have to look at alternatives like the BitFenix Prodigy and Cooler Master eLite 120 Advanced instead of these for now.

Also availability of requisite mini-ITX motherboards is spotty at best and I would not like to offend OR tease sensibilities by putting up numbers and components that are hard to come by here.

For dirt cheap SMPS, the only one that comes to mind are these two --
  • FSP Saga II 350W / 400W
  • Corsair CX v2430W
Anything below these and you are working on compromises.
