Which cabinet do you have, most branded PC cabinets [from Cooler Master, NZXT] come with a bootstrapping device which allows you to screw the 2.5" HDD onto a cradle which will is compatible with the standard 3.5" compartment of those cabinets.

If you have a local cabinet, you night have to improvise a little, screw the HDD from one side and then place a stiff wedge of thick cardboard OR plastic below to support it. But I do not think you should do that as local cabinets have a notoriously insipid build quality.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

i have HP dx2480 pavilion pc. there is room for installation but i want to know about the wiring/.

there is a extra power output available in the same cable which is powering current HDD. But there is no Serial SATA cable?

Should i purchase it? From where can i get it preferably online?

Any good online store for delhi/gurgaon?

i will recommend to buy a sata casing. will be slightly more expensive than the other options, but it will be safer and hassle free.

Would suggest not to power up the drive with a connection from the SMPS. Instead, try to get a USB + eSATA cable, The USB connector will power the drive while you have SATA support.

I have lost one drive like this when I gave it to a friend to use. However, an older Hitachi still works when connected internally.

There is absolutely no issues powering a 2.5" hard drive using the SMPS. The very same supply drives a 2.5" SSD which has similar power and SATA connectors. Most HP systems use Delta OEM power supplies which is just fine.

Use a SATA cable and a SATA power connector and you are good to go. If you need to secure the drive to the enclosure you may have to see if there is a vacant 2.5" slot. Memory card readers generally go into this slot so see if you can locate a spare one.

#bluevolt isnt the cables a bit costly there.. i think locally i got them for like 10 to 20 bucks each,, anyways try theitbazaar.com too

I do agree [Works with my VIP 660W], but on powering up a used 120GB HDD ~ Seagate, it was dead. [Corsair GS600, I think]. #Jakob #chiragthakur can confirm. Or maybe, the drive must have died on the way to chirags house

thanks I am ordering SATA cable and power cable from talaash.com

Mostly, that will not work. You will need a SATA power cable with the orange wire (+3.3V) also.

Oh man, why didn't you recommended ITbazar earlier - it's very cheap @just 40 whereas I already ordered for 125.

i am getting power cable as well along with data cable.

Do not use an Molex to SATA power cable, use an existing SATA cable from the SMPS. AFAIK, the 2.5" HDD's need +5V and +3.3V which are provided by the red and orange cables. I have not tried, yet to run it from a converter, have no interest in bricking any of my drives.

Well that 120GB HDD was kind of on the verge of dying i think, there could be several reasons of what caused the death,it could be GS600,#chiragsthakur can help detect the cause.

A$$ , your drive wasnt working
<
... I have connected many such drives directly to my psu and havent had any issues, it was your drive which when connected wasnt even allowing my pc to boot... And how can a PSU spoil a specific harddrive when all other drives work fine...???
<

#Jakob : GS600 is a good PSU...

Lets forget it yaar. I dont regret the loss of the drive at all, have written it off. Yes, the drive could itself have been dead.

But, would suggest to others who plan to do the same, take your chances
