Just pull out the SATA cable from HDD and motherboard and try it in a different SATA connector. Make sure your SATA cable is firmly fitted and not loose.
Bought the corsair psu as recommended but not very familiar with the hardware components. Trying to get a friends help right now.
What I wanted to kbow that can my HDD go totally kaput due to the poorly powered low quality PSU?

Yes a poor power supply can cause HDD's to fail or reduce their lifespan,Congrats for the psu,Everything will run fine now.
Installed the SMPS finally, and Windows installed some drivers when I started the PC with the GPU attached.
I then installed drivers for the card too. But when I restarted the PC, the Black Windows 7 loading screen comes, but it does not go ahead of that to the welcome screen. What could be the problem?
