Granite vs Vitrified Glazed tiles ????

Which is better and why :D :D

Looking for your personal opinions :):)

I am not taking Marble into consideration, since it take 3-4 weeks to do the polishing work, which i am falling short off :P

Not easy to say which one is better...Vitrified you will get in standard sizes only. Granite, you can get in bigger slabs than vitrified tiles. Vitrified is easier and quicker to install, but the installation must be done by good masons else the tiles will crack after some time, due to hollow spaces beneath. You also should be careful of the quality of he vitrified tiles, cheaper ones get easily staned with even with toilet cleaners like harpic... so I did say Granite wins!

Please also take a look at composite marble - its made of marble chips and "glued" together with an industrial glue. You can polish this like marbel but the amount of polishing required is much less, also costs less than marble.

yeah one more thing to add, i was almost pawned by hearing the granite rates today, the one's being liked by me are in the range of 540-750 sq.ft. Which will make the flooring cost upward of 3 lac including labor :O

And also had checked composite marble, they are too in the same range :O:O

Seems like due to the budget problem, i will have to rule out granite. The Kajaria tiles sales executive is coming to my home tomorrow, lets see what happens

I guess shop keeper's in your area know how much you can spend. I bought some best grade granite direct from the warehouse for 160 psf. And I live in Mumbai. You should at least get this rate. Polishing may be a bit extra.

damm 160 :O :O :O , that's steal man :(

I think granite comes in polished form only, you don't nee to do any more polishing. Its the marble which requires polishing :(

^^ granite comes factory polished because it's quite tough to polish with portable machines afterwards. And it's not used for flooring (kings like you are exempted from trying out any combination) but for countertops/steps and places where there's minimal support underneath. Granite is quite hard and therefore can withstand heavy loads.

Can you name the granites you've enquired so far?

Edit: Forgot to add that you can get really beautiful pre-polished marble as well. You won't settle for anything else if you see it once. :p

^ I think you are calling Italian Marble, which comes in polished form. its also damm expensive. i dont have money to spend that much on flooring :(

Why are you getting it from Kajaria? Are there no other shops in your area? Kajaria is very costly! which suburb you stay in? If you know the Nirmal Lifestyle mall...there are abunch of shops there selling marbl and granite...and they are cheaper than Kajaria for sure.

fixing time takes approx 1 week, and then another 2 week for polishing, its confirmed :(

I got 250 sq feet area marbled recently. The whole job, took a week including polishing. I used 4 feet by 4 feet marble slabs and there were 4 people doing the job. It costed me Rs.20 square foot labor.

Granite is not commonly used in flooring as it is costly and slippery. General use of Granite is to be used on Pillars and Counter tops. Marble is a better choice considering that it is cooler and dissipates heat better compared to Granite. I prefer marble over vitrified tiles as I personally find tiles to be slippery specially when wet.

@The_Falcon, i live in Bhilai, chhattisgarh, its like a big village nothing else, we dont have many options here :(

bro may be your area labour might be expert, my home has also got marble setup, it took them approx 3 week to get it done, the area covered is approx 950sq.ft. The main time taking procedure is waxing and leaving for 3-4 days and then again polishing. The carpet area of new floor is approx 650-700, so i know it will take time, and i had already got my deadline :(

@Roxtin, my mom also said same, if you use Granite, your room will look like Mandir :P:P

So now looking for some nice tiles Digital Tiles from Kajaria, mostly will go for 4x2 size ones :)

Johnson tiles are cheaper if you buy from the factory showroom again.

At my home we have vitrified tiles (2 x 2 i think) for the floor and granite counter tops in kitchen. Granite is usually used in kitchens only for the platform i believe.
We ruled out marble due to cost and we got to know (no idea how true) that as time passes, marble tends to become yellowish.

After costly Italian marble, Kajaria tiles are your best bet. If you want your tiles layout to look almost perfect, go for Kajaria. They have one of the strictest manufacturing tolerances.

I have Kajaria tiles at several places in my house. Only at one place I made a mistake of going for some unknown Spanish brand and the glaring error shows up even in the dark.

First things first ..............

Do not compare HARD STONE (Granite) with Backed Clay, maybe now you would get it what is better & why.

Tiles are very time consuming to maintain every fortnight, whereas granite can be left even for more than a year & its still in same condition.

& a personal question .......... are you polishing it yourself ?

Builder uses tiles because they are cheap but if anyone is building / redoing his / her own house, one should use granite, it lasts generations.
