Budget Above 25K Importing Nexus 5 from the US

So 32 GB is 400$ if some1 buys it in the US ? ~25k ? Does anyone knows if that's inclusive of taxes & shipping ?
33k in the Indian playstore. 8k more for exactly the same ? am I right?

It's Like this.:-
$399 =₹ 399 X 64 = ₹25536 (current rate plus forex conversion charges)
Shipping and handling : ₹700-1000
Import duty: 3500-4000
Total = ₹30536
Rest could be taxes plus charges for providing Indian warranty.
Also US has cheaper devices because they usually don't have to pay imports.

AFAIK I didn't get charged any import duty when I imported my LG Nexus 4 from the US. It was more like:
Nexus 4 = 349$ +
Tax + Shipping = 39$ (which will be reduced to 10$ if you use comgateway because their warehouse is based in Oregon) +
Shipping = 22$
Total = 410$ (Rs. 25,380 @ Rs. 63 per $)

Read it on blog:
Ships by November 5, 2013.
1 Nexus 5 (16GB, White) $349.00
Shipping (3-5 business days): $9.99
Tax: $20.94
Total: $379.93 ~ 380$

Simlarly, 32gb will one costs ---> 433$
+ Shipping to India will cost 20-25$

I have imported many items from US and many times they get cleared from customs free of cost but a few times I had to pay custom duty. Like my 2nd gen kindle was cleared as duty free and amazon refunded the complete custom cost.

Did you get charged custom duty when using any of the shipping services like comgateway, ppobox or ishopinternational? I'm just curious because their website says that their shipping charges are inclusive of customs.

I just want to be sure. Last thing I need after ordering a nexus 5 from the US is being charged 5k in customs. Then I might as well buy it in India and get warranty too.

I never used those services. Kindle was delivered in India by DHL from Amazon only. But amazon had charged me for customs in advance but was refunded later on. For other electronics my cousin shipped them to me but were blocked by Custom Dept at IGI Airport Delhi and I had to pay a visit to get them cleared by paying custom duty.
Better to wait for Indian version. Even I am doing so this time.[DOUBLEPOST=1383326957][/DOUBLEPOST]It is very much possible that you may have to pay custom as it is mentioned on the website of comGateway. Read below
Duties & Taxes
All imported goods are subject to a country's customs and duties. As limits and regulations vary with different countries, please check with the website of your country's governing authority.
Should you have duties and taxes due, please pay the delivery agent when you receive your shipment.

Guys, any idea how much duty I can expect to be charged if I were to bring a nexus 5 32 GB from US ($440 including tax)?
The Nexus 5 falls under Duty exempted case imo. But other taxes are around (12% +8%) of the accessed cost (check http://www.cbec.gov.in/ and article 85 http://www.cbec.gov.in/excise/cxt2012-13/chap85.pdf).
If your invoiced amount is $400 then the custom officers will most probably access it to around $430-450. There is always a variation of about $50. Now that converted to INR with FOREX conversion rates would be around 450 x 63.57 (current xe.com rate + 1 or 2 almost) = INR 28606.50. Now you have to pay custom duty of around 12% of accessed amount. So customs = 0.20 x 28606.50 = 5721.30.
So net amount is 34327.80 INR excluding shipping.

**These are very rough calculations and may vary to actual prices.

Only if someone from US is coming, than it'll be worth it. I'm getting Nexus 7 2013 from US as one of my relative is coming, and considering the black Friday sale and more coming up. I hope I will get it below $200.
Won't the relative get charged duty in that case? I was talking about bringing the phone myself since I may be coming back from US in 1-2 months.
From what I understand, if the total value of items one is carrying is above 35000 INR, they will charge duty. I already exceeded that amount. So, I was thinking whether to buy the phone from US or India.

Yeah its better to buy from play store India and that too when it is available. You will get Indian warranty too.
Now I am a bit confused. Where you referring to the scenario of ordering through somebody like HopShopGo while in India or somebody bringing the phone with them while coming back from US?

I was referring to a situation when you order it from India using services like comgateway or shopyourworld. If you carry it with you then it can be duty free under some limitations as on customs website. You can declare that item to be yours.

Nope. Mine will be pooled with friends and family on the trip. What have you purchased which is exceeding your 35k? You should check this out for more.

Even though the baggage rules allow only used personal effects, it is not the intention of the customs department to verify the newness of every product which a traveler brings, as long as it is not a prima facie new item in their original packing which can be disposed off readily.

Have you done it using some vpn?
you just need US proxy once to setup Google Music than you can use with any ISP. No VPN needed.[DOUBLEPOST=1385110121][/DOUBLEPOST]
I have a PS4, 2 tablets plus some other items. I paid around $1500 at the time of purchase. Except PS4, most are 2 months-1.5 years old though.
Even if you pay customs though I think they will only count PS4 in customs since all others are used items, you will still get it cheaper via US considering the local staple, wallmart sale going on there i.e. discount price of $50. IMO you should take the risk.
