PC Peripherals Multi Function Printer - for home usage

Dear Friends,

Please suggest an inkjet AIO - multi function printer for home usage. Would not be used extensively. Running expenses (cartridges) cost/ availability is also a consideration.

Brands - HP, Epson (build quality should be OK as kids would operate it)

Budget - Around 3k

If you wont be using extensively, don't buy a printer. The ink dries up and the cost of cartridges is prohibitively high.

Whenever you need tp print, go to the nearest cyber cafe and take prints.
 
Economically.... when it comes to home AIO, either to print a lot or don't buy a printer at all.

Recommended is Epson Tx121 : 4 saperate cartridges for each colours . descent build quality. Also if you feel the need, you can add CISS (Continuous Ink Supply System) for 1200-1500/- with 100ml ink of each colour. I've TX121 with CISS and it's doing fine.

Tx121 : 3K/-
Cartridge : 250/-
CISS : 1200-1500
CISS ink : 80/- for 100ml
 
I have been going to cyber cafe to take printouts, but some time feels lethargic, especially during rains. Hence, thought of buying some economical printer for home use.

@ ashish - Saw reviews of Epson TX21, people say the cartridges finish off very quickly (as low as 40-60 pages) - if correct, then it becomes a headache.

Seen ad of HP Ink Advantage Series - can someone throw light/ user reviews of this series and the costs.

I would suggest an Epson T13, just because the refillable cartridges are available on internet very easily. I am using one and its a very good printer.

as for ink goes:
1. you can buy dye based inks for normal day to day printouts.
2. buy pigment based inks if you want to print a lot of photos which do not fade in sun light/uv light.

both the dye based and pigment based inks are widely available for epson printers. And the dye based inks never clog the print head even if you dont use it for months pigment based inks do. the dye based inks are available along with the refilllable auto reset cartridges for all the epson printers.

I had HP printer for 5+ years and biggest problem was cartridges drying up. then it's an expensive affair in long run.
I used to curse myself for not buying Epson, which comes with individual colour cartridges.

I would strongly suggest, buy Epson and immediately, as soon as stock cartridge finishes, install CISS.

Hi guyz, bumping an old thread but have the same requirement .....

Epson tx121 is no longer available anywhere :(

A similar model Epson ME 101 is released but CISS system for this one is not found anywhere in India (am from Mumbai) :(

Please suggest any alternatives/availability info

Require it quite urgently... can buy online as well as offline....

I am also planning to update my printer. Need suggestions regarding Aftermarket CISS vs Factory installed CISS vs Color LASER printer.
Following are my current printers HP Officejet 4355 AIO/ EPSON C58 and am getting CISS kit for these from Ebay:
CISS Kit for all HP Printers
CISS Kit for EPSON C58
Kindly share some experience with aftermarket CISS kit. I am having doubt of clogging with HP Officejet 4355 as it is having sponge based cartridges while EPSON C58 is having chip based cartridges. Secondly, instead of spending 10k on EPSON L210 INK TANK printer, one can extend its budget and buy a color LASER PRINTER. Kindly suggest if it is unfair to compare LASER PRINTERS with CISS based INKJET PRINTERS.
PS: I am fed up of clogging/Ink dried up with HP Officejet 4355`s No. 21 cartridge.

Sellers recommends "DYE Based INKs" to be used with CISS then why have you bought "Pigment INK". Any "Pigment INKs" clogs easily but thier prints are sharp & have long life. Kindly throw some light on it.

because my primary purpose is to print photos. with dye based inks the jets wont clog but the color reproduction is not as good as pigment ink. Also the dye based inks sold in ebay.in usually fade within a month. if the purpose is to print documents dye based inks are better as they are cheap too. but if you want to print photos then pigment based inks give accurate color.

btw, the thing to look out before pigment based inks is the droplet rating of the printer. if you put an ink made for 4pl printer in a 2pl cartridge it will clog.

Are you successful in using "Pigment INK" with CISS. Any case of clogging with your printer after using "Pigment INK" with your CISS kit. Do you have to run printer every 2nd day to keep smooth functioning.
